Re: Weapons in Book II - and a suggestion

Unfortunately in Morrowind/Oblivion with that skill improvement system I (at least) always ended up caring more about how my skills will improve on next level up than about playing the game. It may be more "realistic" but it ends up less fun IMO.

What's even worse is that it encourages mindless ...

Re: Be honest - do you cheat, and how?

I just have to comment the original post, because what ShadowDragon advocates is one of the things I feel take the fun out of most modern games.

It is my experience, and opinion, that in a good game, the player should never be likely to experience defeat if they are giving an honest attempt at it ...

My grandfather was Swedish and for some reason that my father has never explained to me he decided to immigrate to rural Vermont. Now... I love Vermont, it's a beautiful state . . . in the summer. In the winter, well, I would not want to be dealing with -40°F weather (what does that translate ...

Re: RPGs that influenced me the most...

I was really a NES player as a boy, so the first CRPG I played was probably Ultima VII. I played it at a friend's place, and the exploration of an open and interactive world really amazed me.

Around that time I got Shadowrun for SNES, which is like an adventure game with RPG elements. I think that ...

I thought you were German, since you seem to know quite a bit of Swedish and German already. So where are you from, the US? You seem to have a great interest in language. :)

As for "sju", it's pronounced with the sj-sound, as opposed to the tj-sound (which is used in "tjena" (slang ...

Re: pronunciation of Eschalon?

Oh, I never meant to argue that I'm pronouncing it in a correct way. I only tried to explain how I pronounce it.

As for the other stuff, when "sk" becomes a sound of its own, it's the harder ch-sound in all cases I can think of, same sound as in the word sju (seven). Americans have trouble learning ...

Re: For the old school console RPG fans...

Does any bode knows a game that is kinda like eschalon book because i really liked this games and i've completed it about 3 times now and it's getting kinda boaring

Realmz comes to mind. It's not very similar, but in some ways it captures the same feeling, in my opinion. For similar exploration ...

Re: pronunciation of Eschalon?

I always saw the "ch" as the sharp k-sound found in "chaos" for example, so Ess-ka-lon, as some mix of Swedish and English pronounciation. :) Something like: 'Ess' as in chess, 'ka' as in skull and 'lon' as in London.

Re: New Features of Book II

This is the first time in a long while I'm checking out the Eschalon: Book II progress, and I'm extremely happy to see where this is going. Especially the option to make chests "exploit safe" (Yes, I started that annoying thread about that after Book I :)), the random weapon variations, and ...

Maybe you should check out Albion. I haven't played it much myself, but it's definitely sci-fi, and it seems nice. Check out my Albion thread for more opinions.

Nice! More of the same, but tweaked/improved on. Exactly my idea of a good (game) sequel.

Re:

I think trap saving throws and lockpicking should be dependant on character's skill only . No chance to save or break lockpick. If you have stats and skills above required level, you succeed automatically.

Re: Just finished Book I - some criticism

My point with lock-picking is equally true of other skills. I like the way Basilisk does it because it allows each of us to play the game the way we like. You can argue that lock-picking is useless, to which I say, then don't put skill points in it. I like picking the locks rather than bashing ...

Re: Just finished Book I - some criticism

If your character bashs a door , there should be a possibility that the whole wall will come crashing down injuring the character and blocking the path.
Just a few musings.

But if that happened, would you load or not? Or if you didn't have a recent save, wouldn't you just get pissed at yourself ...
