Re: Known Issues and Workarounds

Is there any way to increase walking speed? I am trying to continue this game (started on my desktop) on a netbook and it is even slower than I remembered.

Yes, good old Rolemaster and it's pages of combat modifiers. I've always been surprised that the Rolemaster system was never adapted to a cRPG, since all those calculations could be figured nearly instantaneously by a computer.
There was one shareware game in the early 90s based on a (simplified ...

There's a 'Mysterious Cave' in Tanglewood, just west I think of the Ossuary map which is defended by a mercenary standing outside it. I assume that's where the Ore is but I can't open the one door I can see in that cave, there's a weight sensitive plate in front of it but it does nothing, nothing ...

Make some interesting quests.

Add dialog.

Sorry, but I'm five hours into the game and I'm a little disappointed.

Finished the demo.

I was a bit disappointed by the NPCs in that first village (only 7 of them?). I hope other towns are more interesting.

Combat seems to have a few problems.

I did a direct download from Basilisk Games and got 480 kb/s (just over two minutes) - normally I'm lucky to get 150 at the best times.

For an Action-'RPG' (more like a medieval combat sim) but which is very good, try Mount&Blade (www.taleworlds.net)

Regarding travelling between locations I would much prefer a Realms of Arkania or Return to Krondor approach: pre-defined branching routes, of course which you have to discover.

The travel system of Fallout was one of my major disappointments with the game.

I thought Evil Islands was very good. If the demo experience is a good representation of the whole game I'll buy it. Kult is OK, some interesting ideas but I expect very boring.

Why?

Maybe because it's a huge amount of work. You could make a crappy game based on the Fallout 'atmosphere' where you just shotgun Geckos, chat up some hookers or whatever but nobody would play it. Putting in all the quests, dialog, context-sensitive descriptions and other interactions is what ...
