Also this game pretty much forces you to *save-scum* On chests and stuff..(save the game at a chest,open it,re-load if you get a crap roll) The vast bulk of loot the game generates is...sadly ...garbage. Interesting enough I found a set of thieves boots +4 last night.
With so many variables for ID'ing items..Its more than likely a good idea not to bother with that part.
(xx int/wis,xx lore skill,1-6 lore spell)
Hitting level 9 opened up a bigger equipment pool for sure though.

Has anyone rolled,and played with a really,really low point character and made it work?

Ok so I took a while and re-rolled my healer(about an hour mabey 90 min to get)
