Re: Advice for a Ranger

I played as a ranger also using magic, easiest way to save on arrows and being hit by enemies is to quicksave as soon as u have a hit, then simply load quicksave game, u get your hit but enemy doesn't. I know this make gameplay longer, but what the heck - game is so great it doesnt matter. This way...

Re: Thoughts and Suggestions for Book III

My suggestion: Pure mages need a nerf. I suggest some of the more useful spells require reagents. Lockmelt, for example, could require spending a unit of sulfur to cast. Kind of like spellcasting in Ultima V and beyond, but simpler. Currently, playing as a mage is just too easy.

I, too, spent a lot of time wandering around looking for that huge library, until I finally upgraded cartography.

Re: the grind is wearing me down

The fast deterioration of weapons you find early in the game can lead to some interesting questions about upgrading later on in the game. I'm facing such a question just now; already for most of the game I've fought with a bronze shortspear, 4 damage, +2 to-hit, +1 damage. Not a bad tool at all, bu...

Re: the grind is wearing me down

Anyone looking for realism, I would remind you that the game uses a hit-point system where living things have a "durability" score, but unlike weapons, are 100% effective until they break.

I wonder if this might be a bug. I've noticed that my lanterns get "repaired" overnight... Are you playing the Mac version?

The fact that treasures are only used as decoration by their owners is the best justification for liberating them and putting them to good use!

Re: Damage text

In Book I, the damage roll was given and then any multipliers and bonuses were added. In Book II, the damage "roll" is presented as all the damage together, including critical hits, but I believe before bonuses like Bless and weapon perks and so on. I'd just like to see the damage text sho...

Damage text

What I would prefer to see is the damage "roll" before modifiers like critical hits, adjustments for different combat modes, darkness, weather, etc. What say ye?

Re: Feats and Weapon Skills Discussion

I think the most realistic and fun feat for the thrown weapons skill would be finding a good number of the missiles that missed. The ones that hit should be recoverable every time, but with a chance of being broken. Mostly kidding about the feat suggestion. Everybody knows it should be a Spot Hidden...

Re: Seriously, I Just Don't Get Heavy Armor

I think we need just two kinds of defense, to allow for two or three different basic approaches to character types: The stealthy and agile who rely on avoidance (dodging) and the heavy warriors who rely on mitigation (absorption by armor and toughness or deflection by shields). The third type is the...

Re: Axioms - Why they are great, and what more we want

Taking a completely different angle, how about if Virtuous characters received a better "reaction" type of score, sort of like charisma in other systems? Merchants and other dealers who appreciated the character's outstanding reputation of honor and justice might offer a small discount. It...

Re: Feats and Weapon Skills Discussion

I'm still not clear on why better weapons have to weigh more, reaching absurd hefts. You really could not use a sword at all, in real life, that weighed more than five or six pounds, and a real two-hander would weigh four pounds or so anyway. Better materials should equal lighter weights in general ...
