Re: Dodge-the forgotten defense
And I can punch, but I'm not about to get into a ring with Mike Tyson. To think that the ability to dodge an attack in such a way that you not only avoid getting hit, but put yourself in a better position for returning the attack is a complete misunderstanding. There is ability and there is ...

Re: Cartography - get rid of it
My compromise: I'll make sure a cartography trainer is in the very first village you arrive at- and I'll make sure a small stash of coins is conveniently hidden nearby for which anyone can buy that first skill with, if they want. If not, spend the gold on booze and Taurax steaks.

Re: Dodge-the forgotten defense
As Book III is not going to include any drastic changes to the system, the best solution for the end of the trilogy would be to remove dodge as a skill altogether.
Dodging is a natural reflex anyway, not something you have to learn how to do. I can dodge, and I've never read a book on the subject ...

Re: Healer Build Q's
Looks paladiny. It's a great strategy, having a fighter buffed with holiness. If you choose to go with a shield, cat's eyes makes fighting feasible, but if you're going to be holding that much weight in your hands you'll need oodles of strength, and I haven't found shields worthwhile in Eschalon ...

Re: Stealth and thievery rant
With piercing weapons relying on dex and speed rather than strength and speed, you really only have 2 1/2 attributes to worry about: dex, concentration, and a little speed if you like. That sets you up well for bows, daggers and spears as well as all the rogue skills.

... if you end a story with "it was all a dream," or "it was the aliens" you've run out of ideas. Don't go forward, go backward...something old, something evil that won't die...old things fester and linger and come back angrier...

Throw down a couple of oil potions to surround yourself with fire just before touching the stone. It won't hurt the zombies much but it will keep them away from you.

A question about the archer, do you have to buy arrows? How cheap are they?
For an answer to your last question, it might be a good idea to go to their forums and ask. There are plenty of people stating they are. Over there I'm known as Amberjoy. :)

Re: Din's Curse
Just downloaded the demo today. Trying out different character classes and abilities is a big weakness of mine. I've already run several characters through to level 4 or 5 or so to see how they worked. The hybrid option is great. I've only tried one pure Warrior, found it okay but not as interesting ...

Re: I WANT MY MONEY BACK
That is only partially true. It would have been nice if the manual told me I was in for a lesson in futility if I had anything less than a 30 in my weapon skill. I wasted 14 hours of my life struggling against even basic enemies.

Re: I WANT MY MONEY BACK
I think the mistake made by most newcomers to the series is not focusing enough on a weapon skill (or offensive magic). That's really what makes all the difference. Then, find a way to get past locks (bashing, Melt Lock or lock picking). Everything else is frosting.

Re: Dodge-the forgotten defense
I'm having a good time with my monk-like character. No alchemy, as he has no gear to improve, but the 5 points divination certainly help (Bless, Enchanted Weapon, Cat's Eyes, Divine Heal), and will be even better once I find the stoneskin spell.

Actually, the other key is in the nightstand of the guy who owns the mine. ;-)
I stand corrected! I was thinking of the writ.

As far as "Untouchable" goes, I made a set of bronze armor that has 0 armor value. It worked!
