Combat mode cycle key would be great indeed I was playing a ranger and switching between combat modes (power attack when using the focus feat, aimed (?) attack otherwhise to maximize the chance of hitting the target) quite often.

If you have some extra money that you don't mind to spend, I found the repair training in the dwarven city to be a worthwhile investion. I was irritated by the endgame dialogue choices as well. I quicksaved before the last dialogue and tested both options and they show the same endgame slides indeed. Is it a bug or intentional?
