The OP should probably made most of that first post a "spoiler" since I pretty much found out the ending and I just started the game a few nights ago. Oh well.

Yeah would be nice if he was used for something in this particular game. Seems a lot of "Real Estate" in that zone for little usage. Then again I would probably drop secret doors to at least 5 dungeons per building if I were designing

Does the Constable then figure into some storyline later in the game?

Does the Constable ever leave his house to go into the town? If I "liberate" his gemmed sword for the Smith, will I have some future problems in town?

So there is no problem with the Constable or the Guard later?

heh...the Kegs yes. Great idea. I used the kegs in the Well quest for the Priest to channel the Rats into single column attack in that leading corridor. Worked like a charm.

Luckily I still have 3 kegs to try your trick with the Clerk.

Ouch...no one actually said where it is. I looked all around and can't find the thing. Is it even close to the house? In the back yard? Under trees where it's really hard to see?

Oh yeah...he gets mad And thanks for the clue on the 2nd powder keg. The one I tried only angered the Guard.

Now how can I distract the Town Clerk lady to get at the town treasure chest?

Thanks for the quick and helpful answer. I just found the .pdf in the game install directory...duh. Usually Steam has a clickable manual link on the page you use to start the game (most of them anyway) but I didn't find one for Eschalon II. Glad I dug.

Right now, just started exploring the game. I found a keg behind a house in town and have blown my arse up several times trying to set it off by whacking it with my sword. I can see no other way to detonate it. Perhaps buying a bow & arrow ...
