How hard is it to get this WinUAE running? I remember trying some Amiga emulator years ago (can't remember which), but I never - even after much gnashing of teeth and hair-pulling - got it to work. I'm not looking forward to revisiting that episode. After reading comments about the troubles of getti...

Heh, that's easy to answer. Because they actually have to be good games, first and foremost, as they cannot lean on flashy graphics (and just be pretty games). You said it yourself - atmosphere.gragnak wrote: Old school... turn based.... atmosphere.... Why older games with worse gfx could be so great?

I think the use based experience system is certainly a lot better than the kill based experience system. I like being able to decide whether or not I want to get involved in combat at a particular time, and not feel that I've got to kill everything in sight just to level up. I don't think anyone wa...

As to the combat, its the same reason I hate real time combat.....You can really only focus on one or 1 characters at most and have to constantly pause to try and manage battles, but its still basically chaos, would be so much better turn based. I hear you. The combat in NWN2 can get annoying (and ...

What makes a CRPG good?
Today, to pass the time while commuting, I started thinking about Computer RPGs and what made them good or bad in my mind. Before I got very far, I realised that the term "RPG" is applied quite casually to games nowdays and not always in a way I would agree. If I would want to have a discu...

Thanks for the tip. I bought NWN2 when it was released and played it for a month or so. For all of that time, I was hoping that it would get better soon, that it would get more interesting soon. That didn't happen and I ran out of steam/hope around the time I got to the big city (Neverwinter?). I've...

They did consider it, then made dark disciples of might and magic...what a step down. Sorry to nitpick, but I believe it was called Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (or just Dark Messiah). Even though it was the so-called spiritual successor of Arx Fatalis, it didn't have the same feel at all. Basic...

BioWare's Patrick Weekes has repeatedly said they won't starting promoting DA until Mass Effect is out the door, so the silence is expected at this point. This is kinda strange, IMO, as the two games are to be released on different platforms (Mass Effect on X360 and Dragon Age on PC) and so would n...

Yup, Gothic 3 had a great soundtrack. Too bad the rest of the game didn't fare up so well, IMO. To me G3 was a great disappointment, especially when you compare it to its predesessors (Gothic 1 and 2). YMMV. Back to Eschalon. As music is very effective in setting up the mood of the game, it's great ...

Better luck next time then?
So, regarding the new beta applications, if I have not heard from Basilisk Games by now, I take it the application went bust and I can start crying myself to sleep and/or drinking heavily right about now to ease my pain. ;) Or are you guys still shifting through the applications and haven't yet sent...
