Re: Legend of Grimrock

Also to use ammo, do I have to equip it in what slot? You have to "wield" it, i.e. have it your hand. This means using missile weapons takes two hands, one for the weapon and the other for the ammo. Speaking of ammo, even if arrows seem sparse, they can be reused just like thrown weapons,...

Re: Legend of Grimrock

With regards to missile weapons, there's a sling to be found on dungeon level 2 (i.e. one level before the bow, mentioned above). It uses the ubiquitous rocks for ammo, naturally.

Re: Torchlight: Like FATE mixed with Mythos...

Ooh, that looks pretty good, even though the art style is a tad too cartoony for my taste. Never the less, the style is consistent and very well made, plus the animations are very good. So no problems really. A "point and click" editor is a BIG bonus. Will definitely keep my eye on this. T...

Re: Daggerfall is now Freeware

I try to rotate the old in with the new to help me remember where the good stuff really came from. Yeah, same here actually. DOSBox is in constant use on my computer. But unfortunately sometimes old is too old - some games haven't aged that well (and I'm not talking about graphics here). Case in po...

Re: Making A Game.

Is anybody aware of a "traditional" RPG where hit points doesn't differ between classes? By traditional I assume you mean Pen and Paper RPGs. There are many such rule systems (RuneQuest and GURPS, to name the first two that to mind) and the effect of such systems is that players take comb...

Oh, sorry. I just trusted the date given on the link (which says it's from 1994), but didn't actually d/l the patch to check it out. My bad.

Re: Ultima Underworld

Hmm, if memory serves, there is no 100% cure to that bug, unfortunately. :( The patch helps but does not completely remove the problem and therefore you're pretty much forced to live with it. If I understood you correctly, you got the inventory problem after you applied the patch? Not only that, but...

Re: Remember when

Ahh, the good old text adventures! Must've played nearly all Infocom's and a good deal of Level 9's games, among others. I have great memories of them (just check my sig)... and some great frustrations with them as well. ;) You see: a key > Get key You cannot get the key What do you mean I cannot ge...

Re: Ultima Underworld

This was originally billed as an action RPG game however, in playing it I would say its more of an RPG then many games coming out today sold as an RPG. Amen! Couldn't agree more. I love both Ultima Underworlds. However, I can see why they were called action RPGs back in the day - that first-person ...

Re: old school Sci-Fi RPG?

There were couple of Traveller (well, MegaTraveller) CRPGs back in the early 90's, how about them? I seriously doubt they were the inspiration though. (Note: I never played them, although I did play PnP Traveller in its various incarnations.)

Re: old school Sci-Fi RPG?

This sounds very, very interesting! I'm definitely looking forward to a sci-fi game from Basilisk Games. Two thumbs up for going with hard(ish) sci-fi! IMO, it's a lot better genre than the more common fantasy-with-lasers mumbo-jumbo sci-fi. Can't wait to hear more (but finish Book II first). 8)
