Spiff, you are one of the "lucky" ones. Plimus randomly screens every few orders and has an operator call to confirm it. Usually takes 30-60 minutes, not 12 hours. Sorry. Ok. I just got a receipt, and started the download.... whew! guess they didn't need my phone # to figure out ev...

I will say this, though, Ultima II has a visceral satisfaction to the game play, much like Diablo. Especially once you get the ship and you get past the hard curve. Yeah. You could fire the ship's cannon from a safe distance offshore while the monsters stacked up on the shoreline. It was sweet reve...

Again I am glad to hear someone on the inside talking about this. I have certainly not seen any the 3D games that live up the examples of say Fallout, PST or Jagged Alliance 2. Its a bit much to expect this quality of game the first time out from a small indie developer, but if they could stay in b...

Either way, the cool thing about us is that we really listen to you people! If Book I is not what you wanted, let us know how we can improve the system for Book II. One thing I am not sure I have see you comment on is the possibility of Patches and updates to Book I. I know you will be busy with ge...

I guess it will be when your payment processor/provider goes live?

Heh. I guess I'll be checking in throughout the day to see when it goes on sale. Maybe we can have a virtual 'line outside the store' here in the forums Sunday night or some other fun with it.

Hmm, we have no plans to produce a hint guide for Book I, but the forums are always open! Maybe we should have a special topic just for hints and spoilers, so people who are just looking to know more about the game don't accidentally stumble upon spoilers? Get your hands on some of the Ultima hint ...

Hey, what are those Spiderweb manuals like? How many pages are they? Are they fully illustrated? Are they designed to supplement the storyline, or provide technical reference to the RPG rule set? Gee.. I wonder of there is a bar you are measuring yourself against. Seriously, I've felt that Je...

Jay Branson has written a number of posts on this very topic at his blog, Tales of the Rampant Coyote ( See: http://www.rampantgames.com/blog/labels/Roleplaying%20Games.html ) , and gotten some good discussion about it going in his forums. (Since he is following the indie RPG scene closely and menti...

(the memory hazes a little with the years) The first Ultima I played was Ultima II for the Atari 800 around when it came out (1983?). The first Ultima I completed was Ultima 3 on the Atari 800 in late '85. I played IV on the Atari and then 5 and 6 on the PC (did you know the PC version of Ultima 5 h...

And if by some chance, you are trying your hand at your own game and don't have http://forums.indiegamer.com/ bookmarked, you really should check their forums out; they really try to keep a high signal to noise ratio, and a lot of experienced indies hang out there.

I'd add David Gerrold's "War Against the Chtorr" series to the recommended list with one caveat: He's only finished 4 of the 7 books planned, and has been stalling on the 5th book for a decade or so. Still a great read though.
