Delete your entire saved games folder. That will fix your problem, which is caused by a bad configuration file or a malformed saved game folder.

You'll be glad to know that steam finally updated the steam version of eschalon book II to version 1.04 today. Just a few days after all the screaming in there forums

Try having your monitor auto adjust after starting the game, not at the main screen but actually in the game, I had the same problem as you and on another thread someone suggested this and it worked for me.

You'll be happy to know that my tactics did solicit a response from steam, I don't know how to put a link in to see the thread I started, but here is what a valve rep. posted in the thread shortly after I announced I had filed a claim with Better Business Bureau.
