There will always be bugs that don't crop up until after the release, Saxon. And if you release a game that's ridden with bugs then it will suffer in reviews, which can hurt sales.

But if they don't know, how would that help? When they failed to make said release date, as the probably would, it'd just be a dissapointment for us awaiting the game.

Baldur's Gate had some freedom, and I can't think of a better real-time battle system for an RPG then the one the Inifinity Engine had.
Also, while they may have been very linear, IWD and B'sG were written pretty well, especially in comparison to those hideous things they called modules for NWN ...

I quite like that idea, personally.
Perhaps better types and amounts of food could allow you to heal more while resting?
