So, I've reached the Citadel - and a dead end it seems. :(

To be precise, I'm now trying to figure out how to get past the room that has two gates which drop down when you walk over the trigger plate underneath them.

You could give Foxit Reader a whirl.

Another side-effect is that the game menu can't be opened while you're 'frozen'.

This can be circumvented by quicksaving after you've become stuck. Just close Eschalon via the task manager and then proceed to load said quicksave, didn't have any issues so far, and I've had to do this twice now.

Perhaps it's a leftover from beta, but in the shortcuts window it reads:

Q Quest Journal Toggle

Not exactly a typo, but could stand to be corrected.
