I run it under Xubuntu. To me it did not work at first, but I did not run as root.
I made a small bash script to run. I put padsp before because otherwise was no sound.

padsp ./eschalon_book_2

I've noticed this. It is not from the linux distribution, it is real size of the monitor. For a certain category of monitors does not fit.
Even if you hide the menu bar still does not fit well. Probably the top of the window is too thick. It is my opinion as a beginner.
