Re: Developers Notes: Eschalon World Map

Those old reference books always need to be updated. You don't think they get the latest editions out on the fringes of civilization.

Re: * BOOK II COMBAT OPTIONS *

I like the sound of it. It allows fighters to modify playing style to fit the monster. Quick kills on easy to hit ones and taking longer on those that are harder to hit, but upping your chance instead of just reading all those missed hit messages. Parry would be the biggest help since there are plen...

Re: Beta Testing

Having a high drop out rate is a pain because you then have a smaller group giving you information beyond finding errors. Since beta testers are usually better players to start with, they don't think the game is as hard as new players. The only thing then is to bring in more testers later in the pro...

Nice description. This will look like an interesting addition to the instructions.

Re: I would pay money for a Eschalon adventure editor...

That will probably work better than selling it as a stand alone product. Spiderweb Software's Blades of Avernum did so poorly that Jeff Vogel said it almost cost him his company. There is a limited market of people that want to make their own compared with those that just want to play.

Re: Lock picks & General Help needed

The key in this game is having a clear line of retreat. There are always going to be times where you are hurt and need time to heal and/or recharge spell energy so being able to flee pays off. Range attacks are really necessary with monsters that do poison attacks or something else that you aren't a...

Re: Help me remember an early 90s sci-fi rpg (please).

I was thinking of pen and paper RPGs, but there was a period in the 90's where I didn't play computer RPGs so I missed a lot of them. Some pen and paper games got computer versions.

Re: Help me remember an early 90s sci-fi rpg (please).

Sounds like Traveller which I recently saw as being out there.

I remember spending hours on character generation and going through to schooling and/or military training.

Space Opera also had something similar using a d100 system instead of Traveller's 3d6 dice rolling. They were both from the 80's

Re: Items in Shops

Item reset is somewhat random but it also means that the shop has some more money to buy all that extra junk you've been piling up waiting to sell.

Re: Build-a-Rogue

The only gripe I have with this class is that you gain the most experience with the minimum lock picking and skullduggery if you are willing to reload until you get it. Having a normal amount in each allows you to open them or avoid damage, but you could easily do the same with other means. Percepti...

Re: Changing classes Bug (Might have been reported already)

I don't think that qualifies as a bug as much as a feature.

Changing classes causes loss of earlier information so decide before chosing a class.

Re: Are there any 'class differences'? (New Player)

The major difference is that fighter type classes gain more health for their enduracne and spellcasting classes gain more mana for increased perception. Other than that you can mix and match whatever skills and fighting style is easiest for you.

Re: Basilisk use Plimus to process payments :-(

I never got a reply to an email sent to Plimus and it's been over 8 months. Luckily I was able to get my download without needing a reply from them to my email.

I've searched their site and could never find an 800 number. They really don't want to be contacted except to send money.

Have you changed your default setting?

The board has been tweaked in the last few months to change colors so you may need to reset your preferences in your profile.

Re: Hidden items at the start

Spot hidden and perception (ability score) help with finding hidden traps on the floor and in locked boxes, chests, etc. It takes a high amount to be easily spot them, so pausing when moving over suspected floors may help your chances. A good place to look is the ruined inn to the north and its lowe...
