Re: Will there be a build with lower glibc requirements ?

I believe BasiliskWrangler promised a build compiled against an earlier version of glibc in another thread. He's got a lot on his plate right now, though, so he didn't give a specific date it would be done by. Maybe this will be the case for the 1.04 build when it's ready?

Re: Broken entangle

I can confirm that I have also seen some weird behavior from Entangle. I wasn't sure what it was supposed to do, though, so I didn't know if it was buggy or just less effective by design than I had expected.

Re: Eschalon Book II v1.02 +11 Trainer

A Windows-only trainer for a cross-platform game? Weak!

I don't suppose you'd be willing to post the hex offsets for the save game files?

Re: Seriously, I Just Don't Get Heavy Armor

The "armor rating" in Eschalon doesn't just model the quality of armor that you're wearing. It's a more generalized "armor class" ala D&D - it includes bonuses from Dexterity and Speed. So it's perfectly reasonable for people in heavy armor to be "hard to hit," because a miss in Eschalon includes bo...

Re: CRPGs, where to start?

Given that Eschalon is an "old school" style RPG, I'm surprised not to see more mentions of the kinds of games that inspired it. The Ultima series is excellent, and particularly Ultima 6 and 7 will feel familiar to Eschalon players. You can play Ultima 7 on any modern computer with Exult - http://ex...

Re: Eschalon: Book II hanging on startup (64bit Slackware 13

I'm a zealous about partitioning, and I originally setup my machine with an eye towards booting FreeDOS and Slackware side-by-side. Between a switch to using tmpfs wherever I could and using qemu instead for FreeDOS, I can scrounge a root, /var and /usr partition of adequate size. This can also be ...

Re: Reveal Map spell-suggestion to change it.

The issues with Reveal Map are really just a special case of a more general quirk in the game with the Cartography skill. Whenever you explore an area with a higher Cartography skill, and then later visit the same area with a lower skill, your higher detail map gets overwritten with a lower detail v...

Enable RSS feeds?

I would personally love to get an RSS feed of updates to these forums. Does anybody else feel that way, or am I a weird RSS-using freak? If so, maybe BW would be good enough to enable them? I believe this board is running phpBB 3.0.6, which has built-in ATOM feed support. It should just be a matter ...

Re: Can't Nuke Stunned Opponents

I saw the same behavior with Entangle, and assumed it was a feature. It's a bit more sporting, and the spell is still useful to limit fights to one enemy at a time.

Re: Can not enter Westwillow

My fix above didn't work :( I ran the game through strace, and I can see it trying to read Westwillow.map from inside the tmp directory of the saved game folder. Unfortunately, there's no westwillow.map there either, so making it case insensitive doesn't help. I don't know enough about how the game ...

Re: Suddenly unregistered

Oh, and the way the game "remembers" your registration code is that it keeps it in a .cfg file in your save game directory. If that got deleted somehow, that might explain what you're seeing.

Re: skill point in elemental / divination for a wizard

Your stat - Intelligence or Wisdom - determines what tier spells you can learn, and also how many total spells you can learn. Your casting skill determines what level you can cast a spell at. I don't remember the total needed to cast tier 3 spells at level 6, but it's substantially higher than 11. A...
