Game Won't Even Start

Post by Tremalkinger »

When I click the icon, it just flashes up as though its starting, but nothing ever happens. I'm using a MacBook with the following video card.

Chipset Model: GMA 950
Type: Display
Bus: Built-In
VRAM (Total): 64 MB of shared system memory
Vendor: Intel (0x8086)
Device ID: 0x27a2
Revision ID: 0x0003

I've tried to find drivers to update to, but can't find anything, even on the Intel website. Running the automatic Mac Software Updater now, but since there's nothing about video drivers in it, I don't think it will help.

Any help?

Maybe some other Mac experts can help out here. The one thing I've read form multiple Mac users having a similar bug is how the game fails to run if your filesystem is journaled.

[big edit]

Heh, I just discovered my development Mac has be journaled since day one, so I am not sure why some others have had problems starting the game on a journaled Mac. Must be something else... :?

[edit #2]
What version of MacOS are you running?

I think it's when you format Mac OS Extended Case Sensitive that S*** gets hosed up. Case sensitive volumes break a lot of apps.

I would

a. redownload the game just incase something is corrupt.
b. run repair permissions in Disk Utility
c. Verify your disk in disk utility, if it finds something boot off your OS disk and repair.
d. trash the preference file (I think eschalon doesn't store this in preferences but in your saved game folder in a file called eschalon.cfg)
e. Video driver updates will be bundled with system updates. Make sure your running 10.4.11 or 10.5.5 depending on your 10.x version.
f. you can try selecting the application, get info, and make sure it's not got rosetta selected, this will force PPC emulation which can cause issues.

g. If that doesn't help come back and we'll take another whizzy whack.
