Playing the most fun rogue so far

Post by Hexhammer »

Hello people. :)

I recently added all possible mods for Book II and started a new rogue character, the way I like them. So I'm playing a female nefarious rogue called Maryon. Specialist with piercing weapons and bows, she's got a thing about downright evil and unfair way to fight, thus nefarious axiom. But not an evil personality, first rogue who I play who didn't kill a single draft in Hammerlorne mine. Gave one of them a scratch who dared to get too close and cofmy, just to give them a little lesson about trying to stop a rogue on a mission. She's an opportunist, can't resist at least checking out what people keep behind locked doors.

And she's getting filthy rich, now specializing on stealing valuable stuff which doesn't weight much. I mean come on, who the heck wants to haul heavy armors or those dwarven steel hammers and axes around anyway, its way too troublesome. Spell scrolls and gems are far more nicer and pay well. This rogue is all about challenges, she can't resist getting better at it and now only Taurax seems to be a decent challenge to her. That nasty stone golem was easy as pie as she made it to eat plasma wand.

Her opportunism made her drop the quest to avenge Darus, for a while... Zeblin was rather useful for the training and after that, well, he lost his head. The poor son of a gun tried to even run when he realized his new apprentice was tougher than him. Good riddance. She got pretty good with alchemy by this point, so much fun to imbue dragon skin armors to withstand even harsher punishment, but there's still much to be found. Oh a dodging, gets pretty neat, who needs impenetrable armors when they're too clumsy to hit you in the first place? 8)

Its so much fun, I have played this type of characters before, but not as diverse as my current one. I'm not going the absolute min/max route this time which is so much fun! The Taurax are a royal pain in the ass, one on one, they have no chance, but an entire Taurax patrol, specially with the spear toting ones is difficult and requires trickery. My rogue is rather squishy. The armor rating at the moment is somewhere in the low sixties now which is good, but when ever there's something capable of hitting her, she can get finished in no time. I have had to load a save several times due to this and its cool! My char is quite a jack of all trades kind and I love the challenge. I think on my next game, I might go even further with this thinking. I have played the min/max game many times and it can get quite boring when you end up with untouchable demigod.

I keep finding places I have missed years ago, mostly modded areas I haven't seen before. And I bet there's still a lot to be played. Specially in the Return to Bastion Spire mod as I haven't played it all before. Eschalon games seem to be ageing well, its still as much or even more fun than before. The only complaint would be lack of new mods really. I don't even mind the graphics not scaled for modern monitors, I'm old school enough to not care about it.

Sounds like a fun run! I do love the mods I tried. Apple made it difficult for me to play anymore, though.

What did they mess up with? At least all the games work with Win10 without any problems. Not like all the retro stuff I would love to play, I haven't looked into it yet much. Too busy with everything else. But with Eschalon I had to. Its too much fun to not get back into.

I finished my rogue play through already, I didn't make to find out about all the mods yet so it warrants another character. I'm yet to decide what should it be. The bow/piercing weapon rogue was such a fun one to play, I would think it was still too much a min/max character. I ended the game as level 27 char with quite good gear, only the Taurax posed a challenge. Buffed with potions, not even them could stand on her way.

I should flip a coin if I go into another character or should I just switch to Book III instead. :D
