Semi-official bug tracking thread (SPOILERS)

Post by SpottedShroom »

I will attempt to keep this top post updated with a list of all reported bugs in Book III. As their status changes - confirmed by multiple people, fixed, not possible to replicate, not a bug, won't fix, etc. - I will note that here. The categories are somewhat loose and arbitrary, so please don't complain if you think a bug is in the wrong place. Also note I'm trying to include at least one reference per bug, but I'm not attempting to link to every post/thread that references each bug.

Please post below - corrections, things I missed, confirmation of bugs, etc. - and I will make updates here.

For the Ulgolek unrestoring itself, it did it even when I had already accepted and completed the meaning of the note quest. I think the entire quest is bugged honestly.

Cool! One more thing I won't have to put off and do later!!

Some more:

Skill bug - I still think there are issues with characters losing "Hidden" (in Shadows) status, and then having it be difficult to regenerate, even when out of Mobs' LOSs. (Consider this one 'unconfirmed'...)

Items bug - The game is currently only giving "weapons loot" made of Copper at all points in the game (i.e. even "late game"). This issue is confirmed, even by BW (just search the forums, or look at my last link in this post...).

Mac OS 10.6.8 bug - "Key sticking issue" (see this, starting here, and further down...). (Confirmed for Mac OS 10.6.8, but probably not worth BW's time to fix as 10.6.8 is getting to be pretty "dated", though it does also affect Book II v1.05...)

Engine bug - Narrative text not reporting Mobs' attack moves. ('Unconfirmed' - as I'm the only one who's reported it so far - see here... (Could it be another Mac OS 10.6.8 issue?...))

There may be others missing... I'll report back here if I think of, or come across, any others.

Also: PM and I will be starting a separate "spelling & grammar" thread soon!...

Follow-up on the Mac OS 10.6.8 bug: The "key sticking" issue doesn't just affect the Save Menu - it affects many other things as well (e.g. hitting ESC from camping will almost always bring up the Game Options menu - but not even just this, I think affects other things as well)...). So it's a more general issue...

The ESC from camping bug isn't specific to OS X - I see that on Linux as well. Does it affect the "enter a word" puzzles? If not, it's probably just the save menu.

That's a good question... I'll check that when I get the chance.

But, like I said, it's not just the Save Menu - another example is trying to use the keyboard to navigate dialogues in Books II & III is problematic to the point that sometimes no matter how many times you press "O" for the "OK" to end a dialogue, it won't work and you have to use the mouse cursor and button to close it instead.

(Follow-up edit: There's also an issue with the "Control" key (i.e. right-clicking) getting "stuck" too - sometimes I'll click with the mouse to move my character one grid, but instead whichever Spell is set up in my 'Spell slot' gets cast instead - sometimes multiple clicks will result in the same Spell getting cast and cast again multiple times, in successive turns... I dunno if this is related to the "key-sticking" issue, but it does seem clearly related to it...)

However, if the "ESC" from camping issue is a more general problem, I would suggest adding it to the 'Bugs' list as a separate entry (as I find it really annoying!! :x )...

The game has crashed on me 4 times while moving on maps (different maps each time). The only thing I can think of that is common to all 4 crashes is that each time I was moving across the map with the mouse key held down.

My machine is a Mac laptop running OS 10.6.8.

Added info: The game just crashed on me yet again. All I was doing was walking on the map labelled "Moonrise". I saved a copy of the dump that was generated if anyone wants to see it.

Re. Challenge Bugs: Someone managed at least to do the final battle while preserving True Healer status, there's a report on that in the victory screens thread: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=9031#p54794.
It's not easy, would require soaking up a lot of damage yourself and probably a lot of reloading.

A better candidate for bug status on this subject is Edgar. There's no option to preserve True Healer status while doing that quest. Also somebody said Edgar was already as dead as a dodo to begin with, which is also a valid point.
It could be that BasiliskWranger has already changed this, in a very old thread he said that he had bumped it for change in 1.01 (I think that number might not be correct anymore, but that's how he said it then).

I know it's not impossible, but it's way, way harder than in Book II. And it is marked as debatable, so I'm fine if BW wants to call it not a bug.

I would have called this not a bug - it's a side quest, and it does involve killing a friendly NPC. But if BW already accepted it as a bug, I'll list it.

This is really minor... but you write in the list:
It's possible to keep 9/10 of the pearls for the String of Pearls quest by dividing the pile into individual items.
This should actually read something like:
It's possible to keep 10/11 of the pearls for the String of Pearls quest by dividing into piles of 10 pearls and 1 pearl - i.e. Arima will preferentially take the 1 pearl over the stack of 10 pearls.
Also consider the Dense Nimbus bug with the Blue Nidaria to be "confirmed" - see here:

I don't see the difference. The logic that checks to see if you have 10 pearls and the logic that removes pearls from your inventory are different, leading to an exploit. She'll take the first stack of pearls in your inventory, no matter how many are present. The most reliable exploit is to have 10 pearls and separate them into 10 stacks of 1. It's not necessary to have more than 10.

Ah, OK, what you've written there is the clearest explanation of all - I'd go with something like you just wrote above, then, in the 'bugs' list...

On this one:
[UNCONFIRMED] Fetid grubs may not always drop tumors necessary to exit Akadai Underworld
I agree with Randomizer, here - I think that the baby Grubbs are dropping loot bags with tumors, but because of the way that portion of the dungeon is set up, they're dropping behind walls where it's really hard to see them and so some players are missing them.

That just happened to me (with one of the two 'baby Grubbs' that scripted to drop a tumor) - I couldn't see the bag when it dropped after I killed the baby Grubb, and had to really go hunting for it with the mouse pointer before I could find it.

So I'm skeptical that this really is a bug, especially when two entirely different 'baby Grubbs' are scripted to drop tumor-containing loot-sacks...

I looked at the death script for fetid grubbs, and it's:

Code: Select all

sound (stalk_die) ; gfx (Gibs) 0 2 ; gfx (Colored Mist) 0 1 ; drop_ent 26 0 ; drop_ent 26 0 ; drop_ent 26 0 ; msg (The creature splits open and spills out vicious larva!) ; drop_item (Fetid Grubb Tumor) 100
The "drop_item (Fetid Grubb Tumor) 100" should mean 100% chance of a drop, as opposed to, say, roaches, who "drop_item (Roach Leg) 40" or 40% of the time.

I'll mark this as can't reproduce unless/until we get a better report of it happening again.
