Well I apologize for the relative worthlessness of this post, but I can't contain myself any longer. When I first bought the game I controlled myself and sent an email directly to Basilisk instead of mucking up the forum, but I can't do that again can I?
Eschalon: Book I has hit me much like I Want To Hold Your Hand hit a depressed US in 1964. By this I mean, objectively I think it is a good game, but relative to my personal taste and current situation, it is a fantastic game!
I grew up playing Ultima and Bard's Tale on my Commodore 64 (and had some experience with Wizardry on a friend's Apple II). Eschalon hits on some of the enduring qualities of those games, but it does not feel like a relic, it feels relevant. It brings back some qualities from those games, meshing them with modern features into something new.
Seeing I grew up playing those old games, that also means that I am old. I have a wife and 3 small kids, and that means I don't have that much time for playing games. From what I read it sounds as though future installments may be longer/larger, but for me, the size and scope of Book I is pretty much perfect for my situation.
It seems like I am about halfway through the game after last night's events and it is has been such a fun experience so far it is hard to put into words.
Thanks for the great game!

Hey, hey! Keep it down in here! Some of us are trying to be irritable!
Certainty: a character-driven, literary, turn-based mini-CRPG in which Vasek, legendary "Wandering Philosopher", seeks certainties in a cryptically insular, organic, critically layered city.
