Some issues

Post by obiwan »

Played on wine waiting for the linux version to be posted. Just some things that came up. Do not get me wrong, I love the game, but I still have some remarks.

- Love the ambiance in general, even the the game sometimes seems to much hack n' slash (perhaps i should try a more stealthy char).

- The nice colorful swirling, fading and sliding of UI components looks nice, but it would also be a nice touch to be able to just turn it off.

- Why does doing an action on item stacks start with the amount 0? Nobody ever wants to sell or move zero things. One should be the minimum, or at the very least the default (the max amount being the default is also an option). You can still cancel your sale later. It would save a lot of mousing around.

- Just stealing the sword of a certain Constables wall in plain sight does not seem to anger him much.

- I like to chat with evil beings to see if they repent. Unfortunately, after talking to and then killing the magick shop owner I cannot complete the quest anymore. Xed now acts if he does not need to pay up. At least he should explain why he is not doing so (as it is impossible he knows about it).

- It seems that ranged+cat's eyes still gives me a darkness penalty, whereas melee has no such problems. Intended?

- Nothing warned me that killing my first rat with my bare hands would make me lose the /true ranger/ challenge (only found out this after some hours though, so I am not going to restart).

To be honest, I would call this challenge a /true bowman/. In my book, a ranger has a different ethos, and is perhaps better classified as a true jack of all trades. Investing in hiding, foraging, medicine, bow, sword, some healing, etc. If you do this in the game, you are pretty worthless allround (I am getting mobbed by bonebiters because I did not pile everything into archery. Of course hit and run works, but arrows are hard to find). But this is BW's book, so...

That's all (for now ;)

You have to have the lycanthrope pelt in inventory to get the dialog option.

How far away are these enemies? They would have to be pretty close to point blank for cat's eyes to be effective without a light source boosting it. Problem is, you can't hold a light source and shoot an arrow at the same time. A bowman is better off with Predator's Sight.

Does not matter. I had the pelt. The original quest is forfeited the moment you claim to believe the Magick shop owner. I can see why this was done (Xed does not want him to know anything), but still thing it is the wrong solution because when you kill him directly after the dialogue, it makes finishing the quest impossible.

Yes I know by now, but I was still discovering the game. Ah, it is not so important anyway. Perhaps challenges are more for the second, third, etc game.

About cat's eyes: The range of the spell is not so clearly indicated as in EB1. Or maybe my GL driver messes up. It seems the whole dungeon becomes more clear. I will check if it works on point blank shots.

When I use cat's eyes, it just lights up around my character, not very far and certainly not the whole dungeon. Curious about your GL driver.

Same there, nearly the whole dungeon lights up (but I get more light the closer to the character).

Still, it does still look dark, but with a Torch, it's looks lke a sunny day.

I just camped until I ran into a bunch of wolves at night... they were not affected by my Cat's Eyes.
