That is great decision. I hope there will be a lot of linux users who will buy the game. We have to show support to such projects. Good work!

I have a Linux technical question: is there some type of universal installer for Linux, or should we just distribute the game as a single compressed archive, then let the user just extract the game (directories intact) to whatever directory they want?

As installer for linux, you can check http://www.installjammer.com/ or http://icculus.org/loki_setup/

Personally, I prefer a simple script inside archive to check dependencies (lib, opengl, ...)

My 2cents,

Thank you. I will look at those.

As I said a few posts earlier, I will release the demo to Eschalon on Linux sometime in December and have the community help test it on all the different distos. We'll call this an open beta test, and after all the technical issues are smoothed out, I'll put the full version up for purchase.

Another vote for an archive....it is much easier to maintain the packages in different distributions that way.

Hi Slamelov,

I believe from what I've read on other threads that those of us who are using Linux and Mac will be able to buy the windows version when it's released tomorrow, and once the Linux or Mac version comes out convert the license.

In the words of BasiliskWrangler over on the ask a question thread:
However, we are a small company and want our customers happy. We may have a very short period of time after the Mac version is released (30 days?) where you can convert your license and get a Mac version if you have already bought the Windows version. We'll try to get something like this figured out.
And when we asked, BasiliskWrangler said that if it was implemented it would also apply to Linux users. So here's hoping.

So anyway now is a good time to re-ask the question since we're all going to be buying it as soon as we can get our hands on it...

Just dropped in 'cause I wanted to say that I'm really glad you decided to release this great game on Linux. I'm really looking forward to it!
(on Zenwalk here, btw – and I'm preferring a simple archive as well)

I downloaded the Windows demo today and gave it a try and, wow!, what a beautiful crafted game! I had some problems with the controls at the beginning but got used to them pretty quickly.

I didn't get very far, but what I've see so far from the demo/game I really enjoyed. Now I'm looking forward to the Linux version.
