Mischievous Things You Do In Games

Post by sirdilznik »

On occasion I like to do some weird and mischievous things in video games that ultimately have no bearing on the plot or outcome of the game.

For example I once took the time in Divine Divinity (On a side note, is Divine Divinity the worst title for a really good game ever? It's got to be up there.) to move several boulders into Lanilor's house in Aleroth while he was outside. Then I ran away giggling... well I was giggling, my character did the running. I then imagined Lanilor walking back into his house...

"Well hot dang, what have we here? Some boulders have gone and done crawled into mah home! Dag nabit! I thought I done told Joram to quit messin' wit dat Animate Boulder spell!"

Since Lanilor wasn't voice acted in the game (at least I don't think he was) I like to imagine him speaking with a southern drawl. Also, yes I am touched in the head. :P

So anyone else like to do weird and mischievous things in video games just because?

Hmm... . I must have, but I'll have to recall... . Unfortunately, too often games just don't allow you to do cool, creative stuff that violates intended hero conduct.

Also, I guess this is one of the things you lose when you move games further and further toward greater realism - the freedom for gamers to make up their own meaning in games, and find amusement in little, silly things like this.

As for the title "Divine Divinity", I don't know . . . to me, without having played the game, it sounds kind of deliberately ludicrous, so in that sense I'd have to say it's a better name than, say, Avadon. Or The Longest Journey. Or, for that matter, Forbidden Quest, which is maybe the worst I can think of among games I like[d].
