Skills and experience
Skills and experience
I play Eschalon because I was a big fan of Wizardry back in the day. One difference between the two that I wonder if Eschalon might adopt is the way Wizardry (at least in the later part of the series) had characters gain skill points by exercising their skills. E.g., pick a couple locks, and you'd up your skill level, instead of having to wait to gain a level. I'm not thinking of all the Eschalon skills for this, but ones like Skullduggery or Pick Locks, even the other active skills like weapons.

Re: Skills and experience
A few people have talked about this idea before and players seem to be pretty much split. Some think it makes a lot of sense in terms of realism. Others think it promotes a rather boring bit of grinding in game play. I think that for Book III, there isn't going to be a major change in the leveling process, though.
