Book III is really going to be the best-looking Eschalon game of the three. A while back we said we weren't going to do much of a graphic overhaul from Book II- but the truth is once we started improving some of the graphic tiles we just couldn't stop.
Book III is going to be more hardware demanding than Book II, for sure. If Book II ran sluggish for you and you haven't upgrades your computer or video in the past 2 years, Book III is going to be even tougher on your system.

Crap!
I'm poor now, so I'm stuck with my current MacBook for at least the next 2 years (unless it breaks on me...).
I suspect that means I'm going to have to run Book III on all its lowest graphics settings just to run the thing...

I will make sure there are a few options that you can toggle to keep Book III at a similar speed to Book II. The good news is, the game will still look great since many of the tiles are rendered new. You might just have to turn off a few of the extra visual effects.

What is your performance rating on Book II? We're not talking huge amounts slower- just a couple points higher on the performance rating in heavy detailed areas. On the oldest laptop we have here (circa 2008), I am seeing Book II numbers around 4 and Book III numbers around 6-7... still very playable.

Hmmm... now that I think about it, I wonder if this means that BW took King_of_Death up on his Book III 'Wishlist' suggestions for things like dynamic shadows and water reflections.

Something to ponder...
Hehe, no. That would be too hard to implement with a true 2D iso engine.
Instead, we have an updated sound engine that will provide a deeper audio tapestry than B2, and some new and enhanced visual effects which will be more demanding on slower graphic cards. There's just more going on underneath the hood, hence any system that had trouble running Book 2 is going to find Book 3 a bit more heavy.
Great news, thanks for the update. I bought my current notebook/tablet (Dell XT2) when Book II was in testing and now there's an upgraded model (Dell XT3) so I'm excited to upgrade soon.
