Consider a Prequel *Spoilers*
Consider a Prequel *Spoilers*
I'm sure this has been brought up before, but have any of you every thought of how your life in Eschalon was before you drank that potion? I have actually thought about it quite a bit:
•What was Elderhollow like before it got destroyed?
•How well did you know Korren, and who else was part of Crius Vindica?
•If you knew about the four crux, you obviously knew what they each were (We may see that in Book III, nonetheless...)
•When did you learn about the Vault that you hid the crux in?
•Why were you so worried about being captured (Leading to you drinking the potion)?
•Did you know Lilith/If she's really allergic to bees, why can she beat the crap out of them with her fists?
•What was Vela like?
•What was your brother doing when he got captured and what was he like?
•Is there more to Fathamurk/What is candantine crystal? Where did it come from?
•Is it possible that you knew of Westwillow?
•What's with all the stuff in the library in Port K? (Dragon skeleton)
•Who Was Zeblin? Why did he kill Darus?*
*This may have been answered Later in Book II, I just forgot about it.
Obviously not all of these could be answered with a prequel, and some will inevitably be answered in Book III, but I still think a prequel would be kind of cool. Even if we don't get a new game, perhaps at the end of Book III and old journal or something that tells everything (In the form of a flashback, which might actually be playable?) as an extension, similar to Fathamurk?
I thought I would bring these up, as I've been thinking about how cool a prequel would be, yet how unrealistic or unlikely it is.

Re: Consider a Prequel
For me, in video games and movies, i hate prequels.
I already know whats going on later in the series, so that just ruins prequels for me, in any genre.

Re: Consider a Prequel
@Vroqren: A few of those questions will be answered in Book III, but more importantly we will not leave any loose ends. The truth about the Orakur, the Crux, and much more will be revealed. Several Book I and Book II NPCs are going to make an appearance in Book III to help answer your questions.
There will be no prequel.
There will be no Book IV.
The Eschalon series will be mothballed/retired/packed-up after Book III, so that we can focus 100% on a new game with a new engine. We don't want to be known as the game studio that just produces one game series.

Re: Consider a Prequel
Alright - that works for me! I like the idea of seeing old characters again, similar to the commander in Book I who just became a drunk in Book II.

I think maybe someone will still make a prequel with the Book III tools.

So, who do you think will show up from Books I and II for the finale? I'll bet on Lilith and Erubor for starters...........

I'd like to know if he's really the brother or just a 'brother' as in club members.•What was your brother doing when he got captured and what was he like?

If we want prequels we'll have to make them ourselves I guess.

I guess your prequel is the Age of Dragons when the PC dragon hunts the lower species.Dragonlady wrote:If we want prequels we'll have to make them ourselves I guess.

Re: Consider a Prequel
I wouldn't completely rule out an eventual Eschalon game set in the early Eschalon game world...I just don't want to do a game based on what happens in the "near past" directly before Book I.
However a game set back in the first era, when the realm was more wild and uncivilized, could be cool. When the great serpents still commanded the updrafts of the rifts, and powerful warlords held dominion over the known regions.

Very likely more than just one.Lord_P wrote:I think maybe someone will still make a prequel with the Book III tools.
I think several of us have already thought about that. Certainly doing one in the time just before Thaermore fell is a pretty obvious candidate for a fan-mod of the game.
But if you think about all the things you've learned about in Books I & II, there are several different "eras" that would seem like good candidates for fan-mods.
Also, I'm feeling pretty confident that BW won't have covered every region of Eschalon even in Book III, so other fan-mods could be set in the regions/areas that we don't get to see in Books I-III.
And this is just all off the top of my head.
I'm pretty confident that there will be more than one "pre-Book I" fan-mod of Eschalon...

Be still my beating heart! I'm already deeply in love with this idea and am impatient for it to be implemented. Maybe I'm just impatient in general?BasiliskWrangler wrote:I wouldn't completely rule out an eventual Eschalon game set in the early Eschalon game world..

-early days of human and dwarven exploration (mentioned by BW in the timeline post)
-something even before that, maybe involving a candecium time machine

Re: Consider a Prequel
I definitely expect to see Erubor again. He and Captain Morgan were the two in both books so far, and I'm thinking Book III will see each of them again. I'm guessing that Erubor has a LOT more to do with the goings on in the whole series than we have yet heard. I'd also get a kick out of seeing Captain Morgan get some redemption.Painted Lady wrote:So, who do you think will show up from Books I and II for the finale? I suspect we'll also see Lilith again - she played too big a part of Book I to ignore, and I also suspect there was a lot more going on with her than we were let in on in Book I.Kreador Freeaxe wrote:I definitely expect to see Erubor again. There are several other characters who you could conceiving of showing up too - some of the folks in Bordertown or Blackwater, some of the dwarves (e.g. Credo(?) in the dam, the ones in Durnore and Hammerlorne), the lady who runs Lorewitch... and, of course, the Chancellor of Mistfell (whom I most hope turns up in Book III).
