Wishes for Book III

Post by Full Stop »

Thank you for the great games Book I and II!

Here is my feedback, that probably help to make Book III better. Sorry if this issues are already discussed or I miss something.

1. Playing Book I and II, I constantly used a kind of 'bug' (feature, if you would like :). After saved game loading all items in unopened chests are also reloaded. You may repeatedly reload the game and re-open chests in order to get more valuable item. That made me crazy, I was like an addict trying to fetch more favourable stuff. Is it possible to fix it?) It may be some kind of game difficulty option, which prevents item reload with game reload (items are still random, but only once, e.g. with first map loading :).

2. Foraging skill is too good. Having quite high level of the skill, you get almost infinite source of money. Just through camping, gathering reagents and selling them.

3. Combat mage are too strong, comparing with other characters. They do more damage than pure STR-based characters. I think, you know about it) I just hope, that characters will be more balanced in Book III.

Welcome Full Stop,

You may not have noticed it in the setup options screen when you started the game, but there was a selection for "fixed random seed" that prevents rerolling chests and outcomes of events like lock picking and disabling traps. (Well, the latter are still possible, sort of, but require a lot more steps.)

And if you look in the Book II recent discussions, you'll see that BW has made some changes to Foraging to make it harder to grind ingredients/money. Preventing the committed grinder from doing what they love is not a good idea, but making it a bit less attractive is good.

I should be clear that's in Book II only, not in Book I. There's nothing to stop save-scumming in Book I other than sheer boredom. ;-)

I beg to differ on this point. I would say that pure mage is the most difficult build in the game - pure ranged is easiest, followed by pure melee. The problem is that spell damage is static - X spell does Y damage at level 6, no matter how skilled you are. Compare that to a weapon skill where the sky's the limit - keep pumping up the ranks and the damage keeps getting bigger. An unoptimized caster build is probably more effective than a weapon using one, though, for the same reason.

See, and I would argue pure mage is the easiest. Rangers(bows) do without a doubt the most damage, and mages without a doubt the least. However, a pure mage needs exactly 2 skills and 1 stat to do -everything- the game has to offer. If you get a decent roll for your mage you don't need anymore intel or wis, just use the rings/hats/the necklace you get to up the stats, though you could spare a few points if you want.

So far a pure melee has been the most difficult build to actually play, with the exception of the level 1 since all I really did was shop camp until I had good enough gear to be untouchable... something a mage almost gets from the beginning imo.
