Saves

Post by HALgamer »

I have a Mac with the latest OS. The game runs great, but I can only do a quick save. When I click on the other slots, the feather just blinks and blinks and won't save. I've questioned the designers, but haven't gotten a solution.

Quicksave is the only slot in which you can just click on the save to save.
In the other slots, when the feather begins blinking you can type what you want your save file to be, and then press 'return' or 'enter' to confirm and save the file. Every time you want to save over that file, the feather will begin blinking again, and you can edit the name and re-save.

This may be the "key sticking issue" that I've referenced elsewhere.

Try this: When typing a name into a regular Save slot, try typing keys multiple (and I mean multiple!) times - including the 'Return' Key - to see if the letters appear after hitting the keys several times and if it'll "Save" after hitting the Return Key multiple times. (FTR, this is what I have to do on my end...)

Two questions for you:
  1. What version Mac OS are you using? Is it Mac OS 10.6.8 by chance?
  2. Are you seeing this issue: When Mobs attack, are you only seeing their "Roll" combat info, or are you also seeing other text about their attacks in the Narrative Window, things like "Swamp Roach nashes [your character]"?...

 Didn't realize there was a bug associated with this, I thought he just was new to the game...

The saves work fine. I guess it's been to long since I played Esc II. I clicked on the slot thinking it would just save with the date and time. I forgot that you had to type something in. Works fine now. Been playing too many games that just save without entering text.

So you're seeing no evidence of "key sticking" when you type in the Save Game names?...

If so, that's disappointing, as I was hoping someone else was having this issue, as I have been, so we could solve the particular bug that seems to be bedeviling me...

I still get a bit of key sticking and I'm still on 10.6.8 IJBall. So you're not alone. Though mine does not seem to be as bad as yours.

I am also using OS 10.6.8. Game runs smoothly but I'm having the same key sticking problem that you both have reported (In my case, typing in the file name, and to a lesser extent, the return). It's just caused me to me save over a file name more often. All should be well, unless I forget to save often... and die! Which I have done plenty of times (the dying, not the saving).

OK, so this sounds like an issue that's specific to Mac OS 10.6.8 users, as only you, me, and Randomizer (edit: and now Leyden) seem to be seeing this "bug".

In that case, I'd say it's definitely not worth BW's time to pursue (though it also affects Book II, since v.1.05 - so there is that... :? )

I'm not seeing it on my mac (Though I am using 10.9, it won't run on my 10.6.8 computer).

I assume people still know what quills do. You speak as if you lived through the time of quills though (which I hope you didn't).

Oh, quell your kvelling about quills. ;-) Just had to post that phrase to get it out of my head.
