I really like this game, it's a little on the hard side in my opinion. But you can alter the difficulty level and theres also a walkthrough on the developers site somewhere..

Nice to see the developer is making a sequal.

Probably the one of the best freeware RPGs around?

Not sure, but it has a LOT of different things you can do. I found it by accident and have never looked back.

I'm replaying through this game as well. This game has a ton of similarities with Eschalon but with enough differences so that you could play the games back to back. Eschalon is a more complete and better focused game. Dark Disciples is larger and more freely explorable.

Differences: DD has no spell system, magic can only be cast through wands or scrolls. Healing is done through potions. Using wands is dependent on a high intelligence score. A warrior won't be using fireballs at level 1 or even level 10 without spending some serious resources on intelligence.

You get two points to distribute to your stats and there are no skills in DD. Everything is dependent on statistics, not skills. You wanna pick locks? Have a high dexterity, etc.

My character is about 11th level and I haven't even started the main quest line yet. You get very little xp from fighting monsters in DD. Experience comes from completing quests. A super tough monster may only grant a single point of xp, but you'll get 20 xp for returning a girl's lost pet.

DD is a nice, enjoyable game that runs fine in XP. It cannot be alt-tabbed out of though, so take that into account when playing.

I just started playing this game this afternoon. Cute..boring in that you have to run home to rest, not just rest in an abandoned house/cave, etc. :(
Haven't gone on the main quest yet either. Trying to get to Impling lake. Found a treasure map..after being chased by a Lich??? and sold it. Should I have kept it? What do you do with all that equipment you find and don't use..like the leather armour I took off to replace with chainmail. anyone know if it can be sold somewhere? I hate to drop expencive items! :)

I did notice that food/berries regrow after a while and you can sell them to the potion lady in the forest.
Sometimes the dragon wins...

@Dragonlady You can't rest just anywhere because the game doesn't have a random monster generator. That said, there are generally one or two rooms/dungeon that are safe. Try resting in any rooms that have beds. In the early game, you can rest at the fisherman's hut and a few rooms in the Firestone Ruins area.

To sell items-you need to finish the coachman mystery in the area just south of the starting area. This will take some back and forth action. If you've found the implings then you're well on your way. You can only sell items for 1/10th of the original cost. If something costs 150 to buy, you'll get a huge 15 gold when you sell it. Remember Middengard is a corrupt merchant capital.
