In my mind, after you do this, she gives you a bogus pendant to return to him, then you can go to the UR and see him fighting the dimensional eyes in the jail

I've done the encounter all ways and I have even done the one where you give him the amulet without stealing the contents. He says that he might have more work for you later, but I have yet to get any from him. That should be a possibility to add more adventure, but alas not.

I got attacked twice by this guy and his gang. First time I was in the NE region near the mountain pass when I got the ambush screen. I was low on mana so I ran them back into town to get some help from the guards.

Then, I head out east out from blackwater and got the ambush screen again. Not sure if I got the ambush screen again because maybe one of them was still alive from the first encounter or this is a bug.

I talked to Lilith; then went to the Shady Guy; he attacked me and I killed him; nobody around seemed to care though when we were battling in the tavern. I rubbed the dude out.

I then used the passkey to get the weapon that I'm too limp-wristed to use. I have not seen hide nor hair of the Shady Guy's gang.

I knew I'd be too much for them

You can get THE weapon without killing Lilith?

You have to kill her to get the amulet.

However, you can use a hex editor to give yourself the amulet without killing her.

No, minim8mike - but later in the game, you can get an Adamantine Great sword, which is only one Damage and one ToHit less - and is two pounds lighter! I was lucky enough to find one in a shop that was +4 Damage anyway, so after enhancing it, it's +3 ToHit and +4 Damage - arguably one ToHit less than an enhanced Divine Sword and, as I said, two pounds lighter.
