Re: E:B1 Demo version 1.05 [beta]
Okay, most of these problems are because a few maps were left out of the /data folder when it was readied for upload. Easy fix there.
The problem with people trying to load saved games that are outside the demo region is a bit trickier and has an uglier solution: we will just "force exit" the game with an error saying "Error loading game: you have attempted to load a saved game that is outside the demo region." There is not much else we can do without some serious re-organization of the load_game routine and that would mean possibly adding more bugs, so we are going to avoid that. The truth is, very few people will actually try to load a saved game from the FULL version into the DEMO, and so a pseudo-crash in this case is not a bad thing.
I'll see about adding UPPERCASE key detection, biubidboy.
Thanks for your help, folks. Please continue to post any other bugs found. We'll have a new version of 1.05 Demo put online in a few days, and if that passes inspection we'll put the full 1.05 up.

Re: E:B1 Demo version 1.05 [beta]
Spiderweb games for loading an outside the demo saved game into a demo only version, automatically reloads the game in a demo only area at a specific place in the demo.
I've been seeing an intermittent and irreproducible reload in a different spot within the same zone with no correlation in direction or distance from where the player was located in the save.

Ah, interesting. Yes, if everyone feels that is better, I could just take players to the start location with an appropriate 'error' message, rather than a force quit and error message.Randomizer wrote:Spiderweb games for loading an outside the demo saved game into a demo only version, automatically reloads the game in a demo only area at a specific place in the demo.

Re: E:B1 Demo version 1.05 [beta]
Well honestly, you shouldn't be able to play your full version save games inside a demo, but that's just my personal opinion... 0_o
Re: E:B1 Demo version 1.05 [beta]
EDIT: A more important bug I found - if you quickly keep right-clicking clicking on an enemy while fire-dart (and I assume any other spell) is readied, you can kill them twice, gaining double experience. A potential exploit.
EDIT2: Also, my mage character created in 1.05 can regenerate mana at 1 per turn. I thought the limit was 1/3 per turn. Is this to do with him being druidic or just a bug?
On the windows version, when running fullscreen, if you switch back to the desktop during the opening cinematic, when you switch back, the cinematic is all weird and the writing is massive. This fixes itself when you get to the main menu.

Re: E:B1 Demo version 1.05 [beta]
Haven't made it over to the cemetary yet. I did notice something I hadn't observed before.
My 'mage' has a st of 13, dex 15. And 1 pt of unarmed combat. the 'to hit and damage' were listed as 6 to hit and 5 damage. I was hitting barrels to break them and was getting damage of 7! Where'd the +2 pts come from?
Oh, I'm using my Mac laptop for this.

??? That's weird. I'll look into it...Dragonlady wrote:Haven't made it over to the cemetary yet. I did notice something I hadn't observed before.

...you know, I wonder if the hit was "critical" (double the damage roll) but no critical hit visual effect or message is given. I'll look into it, but I would bet almost anything that is what is happening there.

Re: E:B1 Demo version 1.05 [beta]
[ BETA 2 ]
New versions of the demo are now posted in the top message. Changes in this version are listed below the dashed line in the change log.
@ biubidboy: a couple of these bugs you listed are known and will probably not be address at all. The "double-kill bug" only benefits the player, and the minimize bug is a timing issue (fixed in Book II) which won't be address in Book I because it requires major code change.
As for the Druid regaining MP, I'll take a look.
If this passes inspection, I'll put the 1.05 full version up this week.

Re: E:B1 Demo version 1.05 [beta]
Okay, I managed to get to the cemetary and tried to enter but got the following:
he area beyond exists only in the full version of Escalon: Book 1
Goto http://www.basiliskgames(.....) to purchase, blah, blah. So I went down to Grimmhold marker. Touched it and fought off the bats, saved game in Quicksave area one step from open doorway. Then went to the area to go into Grimmhold and got the same message as above. Moved back two steps and stopped. Did a restore quicksave game to save a bit of time and suddenly found myself in the middle of deep water! Right and south of me was more deep water. (Deep water in backward 'L' shape. The land to the NW was swamp with two Fungal Slime. I could kill them with Firedart but could not get onto land. Could only walk around on the deep water, splashing away.
When I went south to the bottom of the screen trying to turn west I couldn't so decided to see if I could contine south to another screen and got the message above to get buy full game. I'll go south of Aridell tomorrow to see if I can get the compass.
Oh, I was able to go down into the basement and retrieve the metal bar for the blacksmith and up into the 2nd story to get the egg. No problems there.

We posted at nearly the same time, Dragonlady. Check my post above yours; these issues should have been addressed already.
Re: E:B1 Demo version 1.05 [beta]
OK:BasiliskWrangler wrote:New versions of the demo are now posted in the top message. Changes in this version are listed below the dashed line in the change log.
-Attempting to load a preexisting character from the Main Menu now dumps out of the game with the new 'error' dialogue box. And attempting to load a preexisting character into a currently running game with my "new" character just leads to a simple error message without dumping out of the game.
So these now work.
-Can now load Eastern Salted Coast map. (I didn't mention that one before, because I couldn't remember if this map was in the original demo - but it now loads as it should.)
-Can load the Eversleep Cemetery map. (I hadn't gotten that far in the previous play with the 1.05 demo, so I didn't encounter the problem with this one that others had mentioned.)
And, so far, no instances of the weird character "loading" in the middle of the ocean and such.
I'll probably play this a little more tomorrow. I'll report if I get anything else that's weird or unusual then...
Re: E:B1 Demo version 1.05 [beta]
Uh oh.
In attempting to reload my character just now, he just randomly appeared in the void space outside the walls of the Eversleep Cemetery dungeon.
So it looks like whatever this bug is that's causing reloads in random locations is still present and active.

Hmm...has this bug increased in frequency with 1.05? Seems like it...IJBall wrote:Uh oh.
