I played divine divinity, and it was excellent. of course you had lots of combat, but it's definitely a RPG, with a good story, many secondary quests, a large world to explore and a large number of skills to develop your character. Highly recommended. And the 2 coward orcs in the final part of the game are especially funny...
Beyond divinity was less interesting though, I played a dozen hours and lost interest. I had a bug in the first battlefield ; and the skills choice was not to my liking : in Divine, you could take whatever you wanted. In Beyond, there is some kind of tree where you have to master certain skills before taking some others, and you have to find people to teach you.

yeh i picked this up recently for $10 in a bargain bin, it really is underrated. if you have the the willpower to get past the first 5 tedious hours of the 'hack and slash' dungeon, then you'll be pleased with Divine Divinity.

Oh and also, dont go near Beyond Divinity - its a lame spin off that took all the great aspects from Divine Divinity and flushed them down the toilet.

I just downloaded the demo last night. I had heard about it before as being underrated, and many of you seem to agree, so I'm giving it a shot.

The first thing that struck me was the humorous references to you 'pathetic' stats when you first get started.

"..you think crossing your fingers is a form of magic protection spell."

With Vitality score of 60.."You are nigh unto death. Call a healer!"

Just made me chuckle

I got Divine Divinity at Target on the $10 rack. I'm sure it's at BestBuy and the other big box stores for that price. I didn't remember whether it was good or bad, just remember seeing it as a title here. But I got it regardless and glad to see most people liked it!

Ooh, DD was kinda fun although, I never quite finished it. 'Cos believe it or not, my computer actually died three times while battling those darn lizards in the sewers. Talk about an omen. :p

DD seems to be some sort of Diablo clone, though. 'Cos the level designs(monsters as well as the maps and stuff) from the "underground dungeons" and some of the quests were definitely taken from that game.

Now, if only there was a way to turn off that voice-acting. :p It was pretty cheesy.

Having just finished Divine Divinity, good gods... I want to play it again! But first I'm going to give Beyond Divinity a shot first. I know that many have reviewed it as unworthy of being a "sequel" to DD but I want to see what happened after the Divine One became the ruler of the kingdom.

Furthermore, it'd be interesting to look at a flawed game and see what went wrong in terms of level, character and combat design. It's too bad they don't have mods for Beyond that'd fix the flaws.

Btw, it was kinda hilarious in the Black Ring dungeons 'cos you could actually resurrect ALL the Black Ring members(Resurrect + Aura of Command = Awesome). I decided to do that for the fun of it: I was getting tired of the combat plus I wanted to laugh at the Demon of Lies' face. "How'd you like it to have your former allies turn against one another before bowing in servitude under me?!" That, I reckoned, was the ultimate vengeance against the Black Ring and the Demon of Lies.
