I did see a resemblance between them and the Vahnatai, but it was mostly just in general physical appearance, as far as things went. No magic... no awesome swords... and whether or not they live below ground has yet to be confirmed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only confirmed Orakur sightings were the two in Talushorn - considerably *above* ground.
Personally, I liked the introduction of a little sci-fi technology at the end. I would have liked it more if the computers at the end were not referred to as being machines per se, (although I think maybe it only said that when you smash 'em... maybe its death knell could have been described better, including a little electrocution if you were close by?

I'm still trying to sort things out, as far as "Gee, I wonder what actually 'happened,' I wonder where the character is now? Am I on the same planet, still?" etc., but I love love love how they set the stage for startin' out nakey again. I can reconcile myself with that a lot better than "oh there was a war, so I sold all my +3 fiery divine ore weapons of goblin-slaying and moved away - you know, being a hero and all."
Uhh... I wonder if I'ma lose my memories this time around, too? *sob* Note to self - never drink alzheimers serums EVER AGAIN!! DX
Shoot, what was I saying? Man, I could use a drink to forget my troubles....
