I'm about half way through the demo (at least i think i am). I just finished getting the glass lens identified from the old guy. I'm pretty much set on buying this game (and eventually book 3 when it comes out). If i buy the game and keep the serial code stashed, and i buy a new computer will it work on the new one. Or do i have to buy a new one?
Other than that, I just want to say you guys made a damn fun game and i usually dont play turn-based, which says a lot

I'm glad you like the game. We do too!
As for the first question, depends. If you have a PC and a PC game. No problem. If you get a different computer like a Mac, I think you can download the Mac version, use the same code as long as you have your paperwork/email when you bought it. Others will tell you if I'm wrong. Best bet is to have the DVD, it has all the versions on it and you can go from computer to computer to...

I only get pcs, so i should be good. I finally got the hang of it after failing many characters. I made a rogue/ranger character. My skills are-
-lightarmor
-pick locks
-foraging
-move silently
-piercing weapons
-alchemy
I use light armor because its obvious. Pick locks is extremely helpful, and very finesse. Foraging is awesome and is one of the reasons for this class type. Alchemy when mixed with foraging is awesome. Piercing weapons because what thief doesnt use a dagger. And finally move silently because i will need to be able to get past people and i felt that hide in shadows would be less useful.
I like my character, the only problem though is i am reaching the point where i am going to need to get the game soon because i cant go to the 2nd town which is where i think i need to go.

Move silently is almost always a waste of time. you really need to plug a lot of points into hide in shadows to make it effective, though.

I read hide in shadows and it said that it only works when you are in darkness, so during the day you are kinda screwed. A few characters ago i used hide in shadows and the only time it worked was when i was in extreme darkness and i was against the wall. Move silently supposedly affects the chance of them being able to see you in the first place which seems good. Even if i picked move silently over shadows, i'm sure there is a way to learn it as a skill eventually.

There are detailed explanations of how Hide in Shadows works elsewhere, but basically you need lots of points in it to become seriously hard to see. The spells Chameleon and Invisible do more or else the same thing.
You might want to pick up the skill Repair because it will save you lots of money if you can fix your equipment yourself.

Hide in Shadows in the 8 to 10 range allows you at night to stand in front of doors and pick the locks without being seen to loot places in town. It won't work everywhere, but it gets you into most places.
Hide in Shadows at about 15 and cat's eyes will allow you to avoid some monsters in Hammerlorne including the skeletal marauders in level 2 if you want to play a pacifist.

Really? So move silently was useless for me to pick. This sucks. Do i have to start over a new character? I really hope i dont.

You certainly don't
have to start a new character. You can doubtless finish the game with the one you have now. Although if you like having the perfect uber-build, you might start thinking about that for your next playthrough. It's hard to optimize well before you know the game.

Depends what you're trying to do. Move silent is now a necessary complement to making Hide work well, but isn't really needed for invisibility. Hide can be more powerful than invisibility, but requires more point investment.
If magic is your main attack then invisibility may be the better option.
If you're more ranged or melee, then hidden and silent can be better, in my opinion. If you hit an enemy with ranged or melee while just invisible, they will track you down and attack (with a big to-hit penalty mind you, but they will). If you hit an enemy with ranged or melee while hidden and silent, they will come looking for you but will not be able to attack you. (Sometimes they do find you via something like spot hidden, but that's not very often.)
A bit of move silent can be helpful for sneaking around and opening locks near monsters etc too. If you use the trainer and book, and if you have high dexterity, then you won't need too many points invested to walk around quietly and snipe silently with bow or thrown weapons even point blank. You get the equivalent of one skill point move silent for every 4 dexterity.

I was trying to make some sort of a ranger/thief/alchemist hybrid, but the silently move isn't that good.
I had:
-Alchemy
-Light armor
-Piercing
-pick locks from agnostic rogue
-Move silently
-Foraging
I was trying to make a character that would be a sneaky thief because of being hidden and lockpicking, know how to live off the land from foraging, and use the reagents i got from camping to make potions i would use to either heal or slightly enhance my abilities.
Basically, I wanted to be the ultimate wanderer who could survive in the wild for long periods of time. I just need a few free skills. If i could get light armor or alchemy in the first town, I would be set, but i read that most of that is in port kuuhad and i cant find that, or im not allowed to go there cause i have to purchase the game.

Yes, I agree for that I'd skip move silently. If you buy the game you'll eventually have access to a trainer for pick lock / hide / move silent, which with books allows you to get to level 10 in all these - I'd track him down at least for access to the pick lock training. You can probably find the training book for light armor at the inn in the first town if you keep trying, no trainer available (and I wouldn't spend any points there anyway, it's not a great benefit, just reading the book is enough).
There's no training for piercing either, unfortunately, so you could find and read the book for it and then invest away, or if you pick the right start character you might be able to start with it and start investing immediately. There are some rather nice piercing weapons to find later in the game...

One more question. If i was to go with- Hide, light armor, piercing, foraging, pick locks, and alchemy...i can make things right away. I know they wont be the best, but i can create some stuff or do i have to be at a certain lvl to make the basics?
And yes i did read the thread on alchemy.
Oh and by the way has anyone thought of maybe making a craft skill for the next game/expansion pack. That would be cool.

The only problem I see with your build is the lack of a ranged weapon. You are going to have big problems in some areas if you can't attack from a distance.
Maybe you could think about taking the points out of Alchemy and putting them in either Bows or Elemental (for Fire Dart). You can pick up Alchemy later on......

My most recent char actually didn't have any kind of ranged weapons for the whole game, and he was fine except for the Taurax Spearmasters near the end, who were doing a good job of tearing me apart (which could have been countered with more points in armor or shields, of course). Still, I made it through; while ranged weapons certainly make battles easier, they're definitely not required.
