Why on Alchemy, then, since the trainer is quite easy to find in Port K?
Because I fancied those +3 imbuements, so after having gone through my training I went on until level 20 or 22 in Alchemy. That was for a melee fighter, though, I guess a ranger needs it less.

Repair costs I haven't found too steep. They didn't prevent me from becoming rich in my first completed play-through. When I saw the victory screen I was surprised I had met the Wealthy Lord challenge. I wasn't going for that - I left a lot of loot lying around, didn't open the treasure from the treasure map and hadn't invested a single point in Mercantile.
But what I did do, and this will have made a difference, is often sticking to cheaper weapons and armour. If a weapon with damage 6 will do the trick I will often pick that one rather than the 10 times more expensive damage 8 weapon.

Same as in B1, I have everything in two groups at the very bottom. On the right: the special items and quest items and letters and valuable pieces of paper. On the left: other items that I use from time to time. (And in B2: extra food that won't fit in my quickslots.)
Certainty: a character-driven, literary, turn-based mini-CRPG in which Vasek, legendary "Wandering Philosopher", seeks certainties in a cryptically insular, organic, critically layered city.
