I also had a truly harrowing experience doing this quest and ended up on the forums, finding this thread.

The bastard was hiding behind the ruined bridge. It was even the first of them saw.

It wouldn't hurt having an extra or two of these beasts so missing one doesn't become such a problem.

The idea is you've got to get 'em all.
