If you'll note in what you quoted, I said stolen online. How many of those 8.3 million americans identities were stolen online? I bet the number is FAR fewer. But good info none the less.

Astral, I had a similar problem (I don't even have a phone!!), but a call from a pay phone solved the problem.

That's an interesting solution! :D I suppose I could try supplying a "local" payphone number and hoping Plimus don't check it, but I feel it would really be better to deal with the issue at its source with a vendor that doesn't require a number in the first place.

Well, I told Plimus I didn't have a phone and still got the msgs saying I needed to provide a number; but I walked to the nearest pay phone, called their 800 number and explained the no phone issue. The CSR was definitely confused, but she asked a few questions about the card, etc, and cleared it.
