Avadon 2 is about 30% talking to NPCs, 20% getting to someplace, 10% looting, and 40% combat depending upon the difficulty level since on harder difficulty the fights take longer. Most of the quests involve combat although several places allow you to use diplomatic solutions like tell them your from Avadon and watch them leave peacefully.
I don't think any fight even on torment difficulty lasted more than 20 minutes and most are done in less than 5 minutes.
As to dying, there is a sharp learning curve at level 12 if you haven't been building a balanced party.

So, were you able to play solo, or is a party going to be needed?

I did 95% solo on torment, but I still haven't got past a scripted required boss fight. So Jeff has finally achieved his dream of making a game that can't be soloed on the hardest difficulty. Although someone else might find a way past that point with slightly different equipment.

Are you talking about the last boss?
I feel that fight is only for the saboteur ending, which was meant by the developer as an unbalanced option, and definitely not canon.

I was talking in Avadon 2 about a boss fight before the last one.

Update: Testing is going well. The two people selected are doing a great job. Lots of good bugs found so far and having different playing styles run through the game brings up a lot of interesting "issues" which will need to be addressed.

Do you have a feel for when Beta testing will start?

I don't. During their first play-through there were a lot of issues uncovered, quite a few bugs, a serious balance concerns. I'm working on another version now and we'll give it another run-through later this week.

Thanks for the updates! Really glad to hear the game is coming along nicely.
I have this bad habit of forgetting about Eschalon for months at a time, but I was reminded about it today and went here and found this thread. Can't wait for that game editor!
Thanks again and keep up the good work!
