Who are you going to believe, your character or the developer? I figure my character is just bad at telling male and female Orakur apart and thanks to the patriarchy assumes everyone is male by default.Prismatic Maelstrom wrote:Prismatic Maelstrom wrote:I thought Shina was male?

I tend not to trust the developer ever since Jeff Vogel lost an entire continent in Geneforge.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!!!!
SPOILERS!
Does it matter what gender Shina is? I mean, after all, (it) is dead, is it not?
Potentially saved your life, potentially ruined it. Either way, you end up stranded in a jungle, with only a crux stone...

Re: The story thus far...
When I played Book II, I always thought that the Orakur folks are from outer space. And I secretly hoped that we could get some cool futuristic stuff in the next Eschalon game. In my opinion, light sabers and flying saucers are not that far away from mind control, fire balls and teleportation. But I do understand that this kind of development could ruin the game for some people.
Who is General Failure and why is he reading my hard disk ?
Re: The story thus far...
I have to admit that I am among those people who do not like a mixup of Fantasy and Science Fiction. And, to be honest, it was kind of a disappointment to me when I read and saw the alien-like story elements in EB: II. An old, nearly forgotten race of highly skilled magic users from NOT outer space instead of the stereotype looking aliens would have been more suitable for my taste.
So no lightsabres, flying saucers, laser beams or robots for me, please.

Thanks for the link, Prismatic Maelstrom, nice to read that there has been a discussion before.
Interestingly, some people seem to be extremely sensitive to this topic. I think it is okay to discuss the pros and cons of this genre mixture and I absolutely do not think that the overall game is less enjoyable because of the minor part in it I do not like.
Surprisingly, some people like to show their swearword ability towards any criticism of the game or its content, which alienates me to some extent.
Well, I am still excited to know about the whereabouts of the Orakur and their origin. But being the subordinate of higher powers that the player character is, maybe one will never learn about the true circumstances.

It was all a dream - you shake off the effects of the bum amnesia potion, and then you and your brother go out for taurax steak at Orakur's, the best restaurant in Elderhollow.Calathon wrote: Well, I am still excited to know about the whereabouts of the Orakur and their origin. I am actually most curious to find out what the link is between the Orakur and the dwarfs. It's mentioned multiple times as a possibility in both games. We know they are both short little guys, but beyond that I haven't been able to imagine a common relationship.Calathon wrote: Well, I am still excited to know about the whereabouts of the Orakur and their origin.

Hehe, I like the idea that everything was a dream you had after falling off your chair and hitting your head very hard at the table, while sitting at the Orakur´s and having lunch with your brother.
But I do not hope for such an end, as funny as it sounds to me.
You are right, Painted Lady, the only common thing I see (except for the height) is that both races live or work underground. Maybe there is a connection because of the giant gemstones (Crux of Fire / Ages etc.): I could imagine that the dwarves, as master craftsmen, have something to do with the creation of these stones.

More spoilers!
I was under the impression that this were the crux tetrad, and that they were not crafted on Eschalon. More evidence towards this is that they are always referred to as being 'found' in various locations across the world.BasiliskWrangler wrote:[circa Year 300] A bright light falls from the sky. I found this here.
Frankly, I see very little resemblance between the Dwarves (underground) and the Orakur (Extraterrestrial).

In the book "History of Thaermore" it is mentioned that the relations between the men of Thaermore and the dwarves cooled significantly after the "unethical tactics" used by the Commonwealth Guard against the Orakur in the "Plague wars". Maybe this is part of that strange connection.

LOL! I didn't see that!Did you wish yourself happy birthday on facebook?
Since I don't have the time to keep up with all the social media posts/messages/updates by myself, a couple other people have the authority to make official posts on the company Facebook page which shows up generically as "from Basilisk Games". In this case, one of these people wished me a happy birthday without switching back to their personal account. That looks hilarious though!
