Just wanted to let you all know that same happens for me. Running the demo from the .dmg fixes it. I am running 10.5 on a last gen G4 iBook. I know it doesn't meet min specs, but it runs well enough. . . The only 'extras' I have are flip4mac and Divx system pref. add ons.

I'm not using any anti-Virus software. I'll try the run-it-from-the-dmg trick and see it that works for me.

Or make a new administrator account on your Mac and log in to it, install the game and see if it works.

@pumilamac and @idlewastr

Have You two by any chance your HD formated with HFS, Jornualed Case Sensitive? If so that's the problem. Game runs without any problem if disk format is ordinary HFS or HFS, Jornualed Case Insensitive ...

:? :D

best regards

@mptocnik, thanks for pm'ing me, I'm only casually reading this forum.

Yes, I confirm that all my HDs, I use under Mac OS X, are formatted HFS+, journaled, case sensitive.

As we now know this, Tom might hopefully be able to fix this.

Thanks, mpotocnik

I can confirm this bug as well (first generation Intel MacBook, Mac OS X 10.5.2 with HFS+ (journaled, case sensitive)).

As much as I hate to put pressure on you, but I was planning to buy this game but am very much inclined to postpone the purchase until this bug is fixed. Reinstalling Mac OS X just for this game is out of question and playing from the disk image as well since I doubt that I can apply patches to it.

The existence of this bug is also a bit puzzling, since Book 1 seems to work under Linux where almost all filesystems are case sensitive by default.

Agreed. We use the exact same files/file names on both systems. The code should be identical.

Is everyone experiencing the same problem here: a crash upon pressing "Start" to launch the game? Is the disk filesystem format the universal connection between everyone's problem? How may people here with this problem are running PowerPC Macs versus Intel Macs?

We might be able to track this nasty bug down!

I've got both and it hasn't happened to me once on either one of my computers, not even during beta testing. :?

Well, even after I purchased it, the game crashes in the same spot.

In the west forest, as I move right.
It doesn't always crash in exactly the same square.

What information can I provide you that will help.

A saved game.

.zip up your game saved game slot, right before the point where it crashes. Send it to me and tell me what to do to make it crash.

Thanks!

I'm chiming in to tell you that I, too, have a Dual Core MBP with case sensitive journaled HFS and my start menu crashes if I click anything from the "Start" screen.
