And as for keyboard movement, yes, that would be a good idea. Definitely gonna be in Book II, and I am looking to see if I can get it into Book I without breaking a lot of things. I would most likely need to link it to the keypad (8-direction control) but without interfering with Quick Set spells (number keys 1-9). Not sure what laptop owners would do.....and I don't want to have to remap the entire keyboard to fit it on there.....

As long as you don't turn the mouse movement option off, I'll remain happy =)

w, s, a, d keys work very well for keyboard movement, with q, e, z, c for diagonals. The nice thing is that you can "walk" with one hand and shoot or whatever with the other on the mouse. The shortcut keys using those keys would have to be remapped, though.


I, too would like to see the option of using either mouse or keyboard movement in Eschalon Book II. Also, it would be nice to be able to fight or cast spells by mapping the actions to a key rather than having to use the mouse all the time.

These options would also make it much easier for people who have the use of only one hand (or have arthritus), many of whom look for turn-based games because they are easier to control.

This is really the way to go. My hands are in a much more comfortable position and I've got instantaneous access to all my hotkeys. The analog joysticks, while not quite as precise as a mouse, work well enough for this game. My arms would fall off if I came home and held them in the same postition I do at work. With a gamepad, I can kick back on my couch and relax.

I highly recommend it.

Yes, that's nice, but my comment was more directed towards gamers who are say 50+ or even 60+ . As I said I know of many players who cannot
type that well on the keyboard due to having arthritis. And who would have to not play Book II if the controls were keyboard only.
