LOL! I just pinched your rather nifty Basilisk icon, BW, and I'm using that!

Fortunately, as I said, it's just a minor nuisance - when it happens, you just have to reload the save. The save's still Ok; it's not corrupted or anything.

Yeah, that is an obscure bug. I have been over that code a thousand times and can not find a reason for why that sometimes happens. The problem is that its truly random- if I could just find a common catalyst for it, I could have the bug stamped out in about 20 seconds. But, as it is, no one can figure out why the game occasionally places you in obscure locations upon reloads.
This has happened to me once or twice too. The last time it happened it placed my character at the correct Y-coordinate, but as far to the right as possible. This suggests that sometimes the characters coordinates gets corrupted during loading. This might be caused by memory corruption (reading outside the boundaries of an array for example) or something else obscure. Had this been a C++ program I would have ran it through Valgrind to make sure that everything is correct, but I don't know if that would work with Blitz.
Edit: Interesting, it happened again today. But this time it was the Y-coordinate that was wrong, and the X-coordinate that was correct.

Per: I am going to be "gutting" that section of the code soon for Book II alterations. Perhaps I'll find something then.
DEMO UPDATE!
The final demo has been posted (see the first message in this thread). It is the exact same demo as before, but I added the launch_icon.png to the achieve for those who requested it.
A couple people will be testing the full version over the next day or two and then I will put the full version online to purchase this weekend!

I was about to ask if I could just purchase the Windows version and then get the full Linux beta version from you, but if it's being posted this weekend I'll hold off. Thanks so much for the work you've put into this.

My pleasure. I am hopeful that the Linux community enjoys the game- I am counting on many of you Linux fans to get the word out. It seems many Linux sites don't report on games (they take themselves too seriously I guess) and the few gaming sites expect everything to be free and Open Source.
I really enjoy Linux and look forward to doing much more development on it. Hopefully Basilisk Games actions will encourage other developers to support such a great platform.

Have you tried submitting your game to the Linux Game Tome (
http://happypenguin.org/) ? That's one of the largest linux gaming sites, and they post non open source games too.

In addition to the Linux Game Tome, as Per already mentioned, you might try to do submissions to:
LinuxGames (
http://www.linuxgames.com)
Freshmeat.net (
http://www.freshmeat.net)
Softpedia (
http://www.softpedia.com)
I don't know much about Softpedia, but the other two sites(and the Game Tome), I visit every day. I also plan on making a post in the Gentoo forums when the full game is available! I encourage others to get the word out out as well...let's show BW how much we appreciate him supporting the Linux platform by letting as many Linux people know about it as possible!

BTW, BW, for people buying the CD, do you charge extra for posting outside the US - eg Europe?

Not to forget
linuX-gamers.net.
And I've already spread word a little about this game on other forums and will continue to do so when the game finally "hits the shelves".

Unfortunately, I don't think there will be any CD for the Linux version. I am afraid we wouldn't sell enough to cover the minimum 100 needed to do a run at the duplicators. If I get enough requests I will thought.

I've posted a report about Eschalon on
http://happypenguin.org/ yesterday or the day before...
I hope they'll cover Eschalon just when it will be finally out!
I'll buy the book I as soon as it will be out!
What development tools have you used on this game ? Which language, and libraries (sdl and such?)

The latest demo doesn't crash anymore for me on character creation, so thank you! I'll get to try the game now
Edit: And there's a thread on the Ubuntu forums that invited a quite a bit of peeps also (

Demo runs flawlessly and the game looks great! And it's fun too! Now all we need is a boxed linux cd version
