You're probably missing the one by the broken bridge out there all by his lonesome.

I'm working on a pure Fighter with Shields (going for the True Warrior challenge) that I'm trying to get to BW by this weekend too. He's only Level 9 currently.
But I think it's probably most important that BW test a "pure Warrior" type - in Book II, pure melee Fighters have seemed to be the hardest to balance for/play with.

Actually, I don't agree with that anymore. My most recent build was a pure fighter (split between Piercing and Bludgeoning, even), with absolutely no ranged attacks, no alchemy, no magic, etc. The only enemies which were actually problematic were Taruax Spearmasters, who could do a pretty good job of tearing me up before I could close for a kill (which made Talushorn a nice challenge). My earlier Mage characters
did have an easier time, but I don't think that the fighter builds are underpowered.

I didn't find pure melee fighter too difficult, but then I went with super high mercantile so I could buy the best armor. I put all my skill points into weapons, and all my stats into strength. I was hard enough to hit and dangerous enough that not much gave me trouble.

Well, this is my second playthrough with a Fighter (my first Fighter playthrough was a bust!). And, right now, he's Level 9, and he's too weak to take on that scary blacksmith in Farrock, and he's too weak to take on the assassin guys in the Arcadia more than one or two at a time.
We'll see where he's at when he gets to Level 12 or 15. But, right now, he's still more challenging/fragile than my Ranger-Healer hybrid was at the same point in the game.
(One thing - I am playing this guy with Shields, in the hopes that by the time I get to the Spearmen, his Shields will be high enough to deflect some of those spears.

)

This reminds me of something interesting. I have one character I was testing out who was a shield-carrying bare-handed fighter. With shields at 14 or so, he was often deflecting stuff, but I thought it was only ranged attacks the shield would deflect that way. He's deflecting everything. It's really quite nice, actually.

I sent in a level 16 stealth fighting druid.
Uber-optimized build I've been working on for a while, at this level he's just hit the point where he has access to all the buff spells he needs (only a couple I want that I haven't found for him yet) and can sneak around pretty much anywhere at night. And if the new areas are underground...
Equipment is still kind of so-so, other than a nice collection of rings.

Just sent off my latest - Level 15 Ranger. She uses some magic for buffing, but is pretty awesome on her own!

Well, this one has now been sent off to BW.
It turns out, Fighters do get significantly "heartier" around Level 12 or so. But once I got this guy up to >30 in Swords, and ~200 HPs, he could handle himself just fine...
