It's a picture viewer, with plugins and does batch processing too.

I think it's about time this thread was resurrected, again.

Anybody know of any software that'll allow me to do screen grabs in certain programs that Windows 7 would otherwise not allow me to do a screen grab in?

To be fair, XP is also fickle as to which programs it wants to let you to use the Print Screen key in.

I've tried a few, one of them is called Quick Screen Capture, from EtruSoft, and this program isn't bad, except like the others it doesn't allow me to do screen captures in certain programs.

And, before anyone asks: no, Snipping Tool doesn't work, either.

Have you tried GreenShot?

Just tried GreenShot, thanks CycyX . . . not a bad program at all, but still: same problem.

I should point out: This problem only seems to occur in certain games where I'm using full-screen mode.

Thus: In The Witcher, say, I can hit Print Screen and it'll take a screenshot... if I'm in windowed mode. But... if I'm in full-screen mode there's nothing I can do, no program I can load to help me, since I'm totally isolated from the OS proper or any other program.

The problem, in The Witcher's case, is that if I'm in windowed mode then I can't manipulate the camera... strangely. But at any rate: I don't want to be in windowed mode the whole game.

Now... in the case of Eschalon Book 2 (just arrived yesterday, whee!): I can take a screenshot in either mode (but this is on a Mac, ahem).

So I'm guessing there's no program that's going to help me, oh well.

Yet... in NwN2, on PC, in full screen mode, Print Screen does work.

Strange.

My only-slightly-educated guess: since the Print Screen function is not hard-wired: it will only work either while Windows (possibly also a screen grab program) is running in conjunction or else if the game itself is programmed to recognize the Print Screen function and to use it.

Yet other people are able to make screenshots in The Witcher while running it on XP... very strange.

Also, if you do a websearch: you'll find that other people have discovered problems with Print Screen in both Vista and Windows 7..

Try Fraps. The "Shareware" version allows for Framerate display, screenshots, benchmarking, and watermarked video.

I haven't run across a program where it wouldn't let me take a screenshot yet... including any and every game I've played.

Of course, even with the screenshots there's also the little number they put in the corner, but it's off the image and easily erased.

You can disable the framerate display.

It's pretty good; it tries to optimize file placement by moving data near the beginning of the disk - apparently, it can be even twice as fast as the end! All that fancy stuff is explained fairly well on the page I linked to, plus there's always the option of disabling 'em and doing just a "normal" defragmentation. The main advantage is speed, in any case.
