Diplomacy skill
What about a diplomacy skill for Book II? Quests could involve the character settling a dispute over water rights, gazing lands or preventing a war. The character's diplomacy skill would be checked to see how well the character can negotiate. This would give more variety to the quests.

Yes well, This is an old school Rpg, not a... sims game
No offence ^^
Most old schoolers (such as the 16 year old I am) would rather hack, slash, fire arrows, blast, or for the more open minded, crush our enemys under a portcullius.
Can you see any of these blood thirsty warriors looking for a peace pact? I think not.

Lucifer,
I am about as old school as you can get
Actually yes! I can see it. Since it has been done in some of the old school CRPG's. I have played more than my share of them from Ultima I, Wizardry all the way up to Oblivion. Some old school CRPG's had riddles, puzzles and diplomacy quests! Ultima IV did not even have you roll up a character. The character was created by answering ethical dilemma questions! The actions you took in the game affected your abilities. Your character had to gain enligtenment in all eight of the virtues. Ultima IV is listed as one of the greatest CRPG ever created. So it is not just :

Some of those old school CRPG's had tough puzzles, riddles and quests that did not involve killing everything in sight. In fact in some of them if you kill the wrong character the quest could not be finishedhack, slash, fire arrows, blast, or for the more open minded, crush our enemys under a portcullius.
