Hello everybody.
This is a poll to determine which is the most popular weapon type.

The difficulty, Dr. G, is having to choose between a ranged weapon and a melee weapon. Ideally, I like one of each.

Theoretically, bludgeoning and cleaving weapons are the most useful weapons because they can also bash objects with full force, whereas swords don't bash as well but they come in a greater variety of weights and maximum damage, so they are a bit better for combat.
Thrown weapons are probably the weakest weapon in Book I, but for Book II thrown weapons will have higher damage and should be recoverable (working that issue out now) so they will be more tempting to use.

As Kreador said, I almost always use a bow/sword combination. Bow to weaken them down as they run to get close and sword to finish them off...except Acid creatures.

I'd agree with that, although it's useful to have a bashing implement handy for bashing things, rather than as a combat weapon.

Easily cleaving, IMHO. You get a decent weapon early, the wolf's tooth is usually available, and if you have to buy it, it's not too expensive for a +3. That's as good as anything else you'll find. As for kingpin weapon, the Executioner is not too bad for the endgame.
Although the bow is usually necessary (or at least extremely convenient) I rate the melee weapons higher because you can use them more of the game (best to buy archery skill from Bordertown), and you don't have to spend money for ammo, which could be an issue early. Spells make the ideal ranged attack in most cases.
Looking forward to thrown weapons being reworked in Book II, though.

Thanks all for your comments, I agree with most of you that Bow is a necesity, but have you tried to use only bow?, it makes things real hard, specially with fast enemies (cause with the slow ones you can always run and shoot again).
Regarding thrown weapons, I am also looking forward for Book II, cause right now, they are expensive, hard to find, don't make much damage, and when you miss.... your pocket hurts.
Another suggestion for Book II, let the sword be able to bash objects (I know cleaving and bludgeoning fans are going to oposse) but havign to change a weapon just for bashing an empty barrel in a bit uncomfortable.

But have you ever, in real life, tried to bash stuff with a sword? They really aren't designed for it and have a tendency to break (just like in the game).
As for using bow only, that would be tough, but my point was that it's an apples-and-oranges poll if you include both ranged weapons and melee weapons. It's best to have one of each. The "run and shoot again" is my favorite way of dealing with those stupid acid grubs. The real fun is to wound a bunch of them, get them close together, and let the acid splash from one set off a chain reaction to see how many you can kill with that final shot. My record is five.

fully agree,
and some few points unarmed as backup and for bashing barrels / doors
you even recover hit/mana points while hitting 100times on a heavy door
and a few points for throwing the demon oil (so you get no penalty...)

Then maybe we should re-run the poll and allow everyone the posibility of choosing two options.... How about that?
Ninja Gremlin, do you actually recover hit pionts with unarmed combat?

Beside the fact that swords are not good for bashing objects, is there any difference between various melee weapons? I know that in other games, some creatures are more/less vulnerable to one type of weapon than to others. That is not the case here, is it? Is there any reason why I shouldn't always go with the highest damage weapon?

I picked swords as my favorite weapon, but actually my favorite weapon is whatever gets the job done and kills the enemy

Hi,
during combat it is a little bit harder to observe (sometimes the nasty enemy hits you...)
for sure it works while bashing barrels and doors
I used this skill only to level 3 or 4 until I reached the sword teacher
because there are no damage adders (exept the shoes uac +2),
so you might need a very high skill to do sufficient damage to higher level enemies
I will check that point with my next run as a mage
best regards

But, what would be the best weapon in the game? Sword or Axe? I know that Executionner (Big Dark Axe) can be powerfull with +3 imbued, but I really wonder what is the strongest weapon in the game...
As for the poll, I tried Cleaving... and liked it... A LOT!
I might try unarmed, to see if a "monk" type character could be good. Hopefully the sprite animation of fist-hitting will be fierce!! (If not, maybe in Book II it'll be fiercer?)
