Anyone have a good space/sci-fi cRPG they can suggest?

EV:Nova I guess is RPGish, or Fallout. There really aren't a lot, though I would buy them for sure. Basilisk can branch out use this engine, space theme. I'd buy it.
I know Vogel has generally found that RPG'rs for whatever reason, tend to stick to the cookie cutter fantasy. Geneforge, arguably as good or better than Avernum in gameplay and story, has always sold worse than Avernum. Not really emperical evidence, but anecdotaly it seems to be the case that in an already niche market, it would be a smaller subset of those users wanting to play this type of game. And I'm one of them.

Yeah, we can definitely see a much higher demand for fantasy across the board. I guess RPG's lend themselves better to that genre as well. Exploring a planet is one thing, but exploring space is kinda boring. I've always seen that as a major hurdle for any space-based MMO.

Im looking forward to playing a good sci-fi RPG.
Fallout was of course brilliant, but I think as other people have pointed out the niche within a niche reduces your market. I believe Baulders Gate outsold fallout by a large margin.

Maybe you should check out Albion. I haven't played it much myself, but it's definitely sci-fi, and it seems nice. Check out my
Albion thread for more opinions.

There's also Mass Effect, but without having played it I don't think its too much like an old school RPG.

Mass Effect is an action game with some lackluster RPG elements.

Definitely the Escape Velocity series. The first ones only run under Mac OS 9, I think, as does another old SF RPG: New Centurions.
Fallout is good, as is Gorky 17 and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.
