Int, Wis, Perception, Classes, and Mana

I'm enjoying the game so far, but I'm a little confused about Perception, Wisdom, and Intelligence when starting with certain classes. The character creation screen pop-ups read:
Intelligence
...For Magick Users, Intelligence contributes to the amount of Mana Point gained every level.
Wisdom
...For Healers, Wisdom contributes to the amount of Mana Point gained every level.
Perception
...is the basis for all his maximum Mana Points, ....
If I understand that correctly, the higher my Perception, the higher limit I would have on possible mana points in total, but my Int or Wis will only determine how much I gain every level towards that maximum cap depending on my class.
If the above is true, what if I start with a character class other than Healer or Magick User? Perhaps I start as a Fighter, but I still take both Divination and Elemental (or maybe just one of them). Do Int and Wis not contribute to my mana points? Or, should Int and Wis descriptions not include 'For Magick Users' and 'For Healers' since they both apply in some way regardless of initial class selection?
What I've been doing so far is if I want to play mainly a fighter or thief type with just a little magic, I pick either Healer or Magick User as the class just to make sure I don't miss out on any Int or Wis based mana points.
Thanks for clarifying and an excellent game.
