So, I'm playing around with my Level 22(!) Cartography Skill character, and I'm noticing something:

- Regular plain old open barrels do not show up on the Automap!

Sealed barrels do. And bodies do. And of course treasure chests do.

But regular open barrels don't. (And neither do secret 'cubbies' like the ones you find gems in in the Whistling Caves.)

So, my question is - was it intended that regular, plain old open barrels would never show up on the Automap? Or is that some kind of bug, or a feature that was missed in wrapping up the game for production?

Mmm...that sounds like a bit of a bug. I know for sure barrels show up in Book IIs automap after a few points are put into Cartography. I'll check out the Book I code a see what's up.

And just to be specific about it - barrels do show up (I'm pretty sure), but only as the regular "brown dot" (i.e. same as dead trees or signs), not as, say, the "red dot" of bodies and sealed barrels.

Also, now that I think about it, I don't think exploding barrels show up as anything except a "brown dot" too.
