Online game recommendations...

I was turned off by online RPGs early on by the inclusion of the PVP (player verses player) feature. You know...no sooner do you log on and "WHAM"...thirty-two-thousand players, each at level fifty and beyond, pounce on--->and kill, your pathetic little level three character before said character can take a single step within the game.

I guess, all told, I've played more then a dozen of these online games, and swore to myself that I'd never go down that path again. Well...my Nephew is interested in joining a game, and I told him I'd ask here for recommendations.

He'd like to play an RPG, but with no PVP feature if such a game exists. Nothing too new because his computer is about as antiquated as mine is. A browser game would do, preferably mouse driven.

Thanks, people...

Well I like both city of heros and warhammer online both good games.

Neither has to be pvp if you don't want it.

I tried out "Minions of Mirth". I think they have pvp and non-pvp. I never did get online (just recall what was said about it in their forums). You can play 'solo' by yourself at home. And believe me, it will take weeks of playing it to get high enough to get close to the end (100th level-player). I got a tad bored with it after reaching 15th level. You can go as a single class or up to 3 class combo.

Young folks seem to like it, I must be too old. At least you could look into it.

Here's the address to their forums: http://minions.prairiegames.com/trac/mom/phpbb

Minions was pretty good, but I think it will turn off less old school mmo guys. I'm pretty partial too it, since I have some content I made in it. It's alot like everquest 1.

MoM is decent - though I haven't logged in for several months - that is my own shortcoming more than any game. Atlantica Online is OK - strategy based MMO where you fight with hired mercenaries to assist you - PVP only if you want to.

Runes of Magic I think is also PVP if you want - haven't played too far into that - but it seems like your run of the mill WoW clone.

Not sure on the system specs for either game though - sorry :|

Thanks, people-! I seriously appreciate your help. Please list any others you may discover, and/or, hear of. I'll check them out and relay them to my brother-in-law, so that he can decide which ones might be good for a twelve year old (nephew).

Thanks again...

Let's see...

www.outspark.com has several, such as Project Powder (snowboarding MMO). There's Maple Story, Florensia, Fiesta, Dungeon Runners, Solstice, Perfect World...

again, I make no guarantees about sys reqs, and even in games geared towards younger crowds, there're always jerks out there.

Just wanted to say, again, that I appreciate the help. My nephew is trying out your recommendations, and he says to say thanks.

If your nephew's system can run Atlantica, and he wants to try that out, I believe I selected International English as my language - server I'm on is Macedon. If he wants to look me up, I can get him into our guild, and we can probably help him with starting equipment as well. Hopefully he'll find something he likes out there.

-Uhm, Diablo (II)? =)

-Well, if that isn't too 'gory' for a 12 year old, I am not sure how parents rate their children now.

Egg's Ultima Online. It's truly old school graphics, based on the U4/5 style. Top down, PVP was completely optional, but if you turned it on, you couldn't turn it back off. Ignore the trolls who try to get newbs to go PVP early, because there is little built in to handle griefers.

I played up to level 24 before getting bored, but that's mostly because I wasn't able to find anything a level 24 mage could do easily solo, and I couldn't find anyone my level regularly due to my work hours being insane.

You know, I've been waiting a decade to try that.

I originally quit because it doesn't work in WINE, and there was no Linux client. I got back into it when I returned to Windows, but quit after awhile.

Now I don't even remember my account name.

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.

PVP is non-existent.

There's even a 14 day trial: http://forums.station.sony.com/vg/posts ... c_id=39470
